If you’re not familiar with the Red Son miniseries, an alternate telling of Superman‘s origin, it’s a whopper. A damn good whopper, but a whopper nonetheless. It posits the Man of Steel as having landed not in rural Kansas but in the Soviet Union. It’s a great analyzation of nature vs. nurture in behavioral traits, except in super-humans instead of regular old humans, and in a Communist nation as opposed to a Democratic Republic.
Kal-El (styled Kal-L) in Mark Millar’s Red Son is essentially a state-controlled weapon, and Wonder Woman is a would-be love interest, save for the fact that Superman has no romantic feelings for her. 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us video game released a DLC pack complete with Red Son-inspired missions and alternate costumes for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Solomon Grundy, among others.
There is now a statue of this alternate Wonder Woman that stands impressively at almost 2 feet tall, with incredible detail in the sculpt. Instead of Wonder Woman’s original red, white, blue, and gold color scheme, she’s adorned in militaristic red and gray to reflect the Cold War-era Soviet Union. In addition to her iconic Lasso of Truth, Red Son Wonder Woman carries across her back a flag bearing the hammer and sickle.
The price certainly reflects the incredible work and detail that went into the 22″ statue, coming in at a cool $469.99 MSRP. The figure is available now from Sideshow Collectibles and to make the price a little more palatable, a monthly installment option is available.
