If you’ve ever wanted to speak directly to Shia LaBeouf, this might be your best chance (at least until his next offbeat interactive art project). His latest art installation is called “#TOUCHMYSOUL”, and its website describes it thusly: “Over the next four days, LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner invite you to pick up your telephone and touch their soul on +44 (0)151 808 0771 between the hours of 11am – 6pm GMT.”
From now until December 13, from 6am to 1pm EST (3am to 10am PST), you can call that number, and you’ll apparently be connected with either LaBeouf himself or one of his two collaborators. LeBeouf began teasing the project on Twitter on November 30, tweeting “touch my soul” once a day until today, when the project commenced and began streaming live — they’re not there right now, but you can watch a dark room illuminated by computer monitors if that excites you.
So what do you do once you’re on the phone? It seems the only instructions are in the name of the project. Tell them a touching anecdote about your day. Talk about your relative’s courageous battle with a fatal illness. Unload the personal truths you have come to realize through the trials of your life. Weave a simple tale that is packed with hidden and profound meaning. Do whatever you think is the most effective way to touch Shia LaBeouf’s soul over a phone conversation, we suppose.
The video stream has no audio, so the only way to get the full #TOUCHMYSOUL experience is to experience it yourself. If you’re in the U.S., you might have to wake up early to do it, but maybe you’ll actually have a profound conversation.
