Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for Scream Queens. Proceed with caution if you haven’t watched yet.
While the body count was on the lower end of the spectrum this week, there was still a lot going on in Scream Queens. Holt’s hand spiraled out of control, the Chanels ran psychiatric tests on Cascade, and several more patients rolled into the hospital (and didn’t die!). For a full recap of everything you might have missed, keep reading.
Last week, we got official confirmation that Dr. Cascade is in fact a Green Meanie killer, but he’s not alone. While we do know that Nurse Hoeffel was given a Green Meanie costume of her own, neither she nor Cascade knows who the mystery murderer is. However, Hester still claims to, so there’s still a possibility that it’s her. In the meantime, it’s been interesting watching the other characters figure out Cascade’s true identity. No. 3 already knows about his murderous tendencies, but is too blinded by her love to turn him in to the police. On the flip side, Cascade has feelings for Chanel No. 3 and doesn’t want to harm her or her friends. Awful Nurse Hoeffel, however, wants all of the girls dead for what they did to her sister in season one. During a chat with Cascade, Hoeffel got that sentiment across, and ensured that she would take drastic measures if he didn’t comply and take out the Chanels.
Aside from deciding who to murder next, Cascade was occupied by curing a male patient who came in with an awful skin condition. At first, he thought that he was being poisoned by someone else, and that he was incredibly contagious. When the man’s girlfriend wouldn’t leave his side, he finally admitted that he’s been poisoning himself in hopes she would lose interest in him and leave him alone. Of course, he got the complete opposite when she clung to his side. After he was cured, everything seemed hunky dory in his life. The Green Meanie also didn’t show up to kill him, so there’s that.
On Holt’s side of the hospital was a separate patient who had an extra pair of arms. In an attempt to make herself and the hospital look good, Munsch tasked Holt with risky surgery on the multi-armed woman. The extra layer of stress that resulted from his surgical agenda ended up putting a severe amount of stress on Holt. Under pressure, Holt struggled with keeping his hand in check. Killing Chanel seems to be the top of the hand’s priorities, which obviously adds more weight to Holt’s shoulders. In a brief sequence, Holt fought his hand and even heard the hand’s so-called voice taunting him. The chaos ended when the Green Meanie showed up ready to murder him. Thankfully the hand knew how to handle itself and fought off the killer.
After saving the day, however, the hand went back to terrorizing Holt. When he learned that he would have to go through with performing the surgery on the girl, he decided the best way to go about it was to strap the troubled arm to his body. While his hand nearly broke free, he finished the operation, and performed a heart transplant on the patient. Chanel and the staff were able to calm Holt down a little by singing “99 Red Balloons.” It was a weird moment, but a perfect opportunity to point out that Holt said he was a kid when the song came out… but that’s a story for another day.
As I already mentioned, this week was light on bloodshed. One of the Chanel Recruits went down during the episode, and it was pretty lackluster. The team was able to use her heart for the transplant surgery, but that’s about it as far as plot progression is concerned. There are several people who wanted the surgery to be a success, including Dean Munsch. Of course, Zayday and Chamberlain were completely missing this week so the mystery Green Meanie could be anyone.
