Scream Queens has had its fair share of reveals over the course of the season, but none were as surprising as the one that Pete dropped in this week’s episode, “Thanksgiving.” With the holidays in full swing, the Kappas all wound up back at the house together for a turkey dinner, a game of whodunnit, and charades. Okay, we never got to see charades, but we did get to see the Radwells play a very upsetting game of Pictionary, which—to be honest—is more than enough. Denise Hemphill was missing this week, which was unfortunate considering we’d been getting used to having her back, but thankfully, the episode was great so didn’t matter.
After pushing Hester down the stairs last week, Chanel’s invitation to the Radwell Thanksgiving dinner party was extended yet again. Prior to going out to the estate, Chanel explained how she’d killed Hester, and without missing a beat, Chad expressed his desire to go out to the meat locker to see her “dead hot body” (remember those graveyard scenes? *shudder*). But, like the other bodies that the Chanels have stowed there, Hester’s body was gone when they arrived. Though Chanel suspects foul play, Chad suggested that she probably just got up and walked out of there. Since nobody seems to stay dead in Scream Queens, it wasn’t surprising to find out that Chad’s statement was true.
When Hester (who Chad introduced as his sober coach) showed up at the Radwell estate, she explained that both her neckbrace, and Chanel’s decision to put her in the meat locker, is what saved her life. With the Radwells already unimpressed by Chanel and her family’s status, Hester’s entrance and announcement that she’s supposedly carrying Chad’s baby only made things worse. After Chanel nearly strangled Chad’s mother (Julia Duffy), his father (Alan Thicke) met with the Kappa Queen in private to bribe her with $50K so she’ll go away—which of course, she refused. Things went from bad to worse when the Radwell gang gathered to play a pretty mean-spirited game of pictionary. When Brad Radwell (Chad Michael Murray) pulled “neckbrace whore” out of the hat, Chanel stood up for Hester, called them all out on being terrible people, broke up with Chad, and left the estate with Hester by her side. I don’t know how genuine Chanel’s speech was, but it was great to see, regardless.
We also got to see Chanel No. 3’s family, when she went home for dinner. When she arrived, the Swensons (who are famous for their brand of TV dinners) were already sitting down to their annual Thanksgiving tradition of eating their own TV dinners in front of a wall of televisions. After being there all of ten minutes, No. 3 told her family off and left. When she arrived at Kappa house, she found Dean Munsch (who was uninvited to her in-laws because they think she killed their son) preparing a turkey. No. 6 decided to help the Dean cook, and was later joined by Grace, Zayday, Wes, Pete, and No. 5.
It didn’t take long for the group to start accusing each other of being the red devil killer. Chanel No. 3 accused Dean Munsch, Dean Munsch accused No. 3, Pete accused Wes, and Wes surprisingly accused Grace. Yes, he threw his own daughter under the bus. Although Wes doesn’t want her to be one of the red devils, he brought up some interesting evidence including the fact that she was there the day that she was at Kappa house the day that one of the girls died. But, after getting all of that off his chest, he said that he doesn’t believe it was her after all. The floor was then left to Pete, who dropped a major bomb.
During his research, (he’s an investigative journalist, damn it!) he found a convincing “orgy of evidence” suggesting that Wes is the killer—for starters, he had a great motive. After continually trying to get Grace to not pledge Kappa, Pete suggested that killing off the girls would be a great way to get Munsch to close down the sorority, getting Grace out of it for good. On top of having a great reason to off them, Wes was also seen tampering with the security camera, but that was quickly shot down with Wes’ explanation that he’d been stealing meat from the freezer (you know, because the Kappas don’t eat). When he hit them with his final bit of evidence, I had a hard time collecting my jaw from the floor.
After sneaking into Wes’ apartment and running a DNA test on one of his hairs, he found out that Wes was actually Boone’s (and the other red devil’s) father! I’ll let that one sink in for a moment. Wow, I don’t know about you, but I definitely wasn’t expecting that. The information was apparently news to Wes, who chocked it up to being a “man slut” back in the day. When Pete said he was going to bring the evidence to the police, Grace stopped him because she knows her father, and doesn’t think it was him.
With everyone back at the house now, (including Chad) they sat down to enjoy the turkey they’d spent all day cooking. But, much to their surprise, when Chanel took the lid off, it was actually Gigi’s head sitting on the platter. Yes, finally! I guess after killing Boone, the other red devil decided to carry out her brother’s dying wishes by offing their foster mama.
