Donut aficionados know that the sweet pastries are more than just fried dough with a hefty helping of sugar—they are the key to happiness. Expressive of your taste, choosing a donut can mean the difference between an average day and a spectacular fun kawaii day.
In Japan, theming out food is the norm and they seem to do it in the most lovable way possible. Rocketnews24 gives us a look at sweet new donuts made to look like popular Sanrio characters Gudetama and Pompompurin. Ikumi Mama bakery debuted these delightful donuts to their already rabid fanbase. The bakery is known for their endearing alpacas, otters, and pandas made out of fried dough. Mike cat, an adorable cat-shaped donut, is their biggest seller.
Pompompurin donuts are made to look like the pudding-loving dog via white chocolate mixed with kabocha. This Japanese pumpkin powder gives the donut a uniquely Japanese flavor.
The new Gudetama donut doesn’t even look like a donut. The white chocolate topping stands in for egg albumen, and each donut features Gudetama’s adorable face of pure disgust. He’s known for his laziness, but you can’t deny the skill that goes into making a lazy egg donut look this good.
The Pompompurin and Gudetama donuts are only available in Japan for 430 yen ($4 US) for a limited time during the month of April.
