Man of Steel kicked off the new DC Extended Universe set to explode in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the live-action cinematic debuts of Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and possibly some other DC heroes—including a surprise appearance from another heroine. Could it be that the two-part Justice League film will feature more than one lady—Wonder Woman— on the team united against a common threat?
There’s a new rumor out of Heroic Hollywood that suggests another DC heroine is making her debut in the first Justice League movie. Consider this your SPOILER WARNING if you don’t want to know specifics. Still with us? Good. Let’s get into it.
According to the report, the hero in question is Mera, queen of Atlantis and the wife of Aquaman. Her powers are similar to Aquaman’s, but she can also create and control “hard water objects.”
While the report isn’t clear on whether Mera will join the Justice League in the movie, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is expected to be a part of the team. But Mera is a formidable hero in her own right, as she’s a member of the Justice League United in the New 52.
The new rumor suggests that Justice League director Zack Snyder is already sending out the casting call for Mera ahead of the Aquaman film scheduled for 2018 with director James Wan.
Considering that Momoa’s breakout role was Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, may we suggest Emilia Clarke as Mera? Mera is Aquaman’s equal in every way, and who better to embody that than the Mother of Dragons herself?
