No word yet on how many Bothans died to bring you this information, but the latest piece of Star Wars spin-off news is here. According to Deadline, Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn (Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Dark Knight Rises) may be suiting up to star in Star Wars: Rogue One alongside Felicity Jones.
While we don’t know any explicit plot details about the first standalone film, we do know that Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat will pen the score, Gareth Edwards is directing, Chris Weitz is writing the latest draft, and Felicity Jones beat out the likes of Tatiana Maslany to land the lead role. Given the title, we can only surmise that this story will revolve around an X-Wing pilot — or pilots — so hopefully this will be the hard-boiled, grounded Wedge Antilles or Biggs Darklighter saga we’ve been waiting for. Honestly, I’m not sure who exactly Mendelsohn would play; maybe an aged Wedge or Han Solo’s haggard-looking cousin Hans Olo.
Recently, on Nerdist News, we explained exactly what Rogue One could mean for the galaxy far, far away. (Spoiler alert: nothing but good things.)
