It appears that Michael Cera won’t be joining the J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world anytime soon, as the actor has turned down a part in Rowling’s upcoming adaptation of her book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them at Warner Brothers. Cera is, however, going to be taking on another project for Warner Brothers soon, as he’s said to be close to signing on the dotted line to voice the part of Robin the Boy Wonder in the upcoming LEGO Batman movie, which is a spin-off of last year’s super successful LEGO Movie.
Cera would join his former Arrested Development co-star Will Arnett, who will be reprising his role as Batman once more. Original LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller won’t be directing this one (they’re going to be a bit busy with Han Solo over in that galaxy far, far away) but will remain on board as producers. The LEGO Batman movie will be directed by Chris McKay, and written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. He also wrote the Johnny Depp starring Dark Shadows, but let’s not hold that against him; there were a lot of cooks in that particular kitchen.
This won’t be the only upcoming animated project that Micahel Cera is getting involved with. He’s also doing voice acting work in the upcoming adult skewed animated feature Sausage Party, which is being produced by his old Superbad cohorts, Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg. Sausage Party is scheduled for August of 2016, with the LEGO Batman movie currently set for a February 2017 release.
