This Monday, the biggest success of last season, NBC’s The Blacklist, will make its triumphant return in all its James Spader-y glory. Throughout the course of the series’ freshman season, we were enthralled with the adventures of Red Reddington, and every episode, even the weak ones, was an opportunity to watch Spader do something he does best: act. The man is a tour de force in the craft, and The Blacklist his shining gift to the world at large. Now, with the clock to season two approaching midnight, NBC has finally released a full length trailer with all new footage to get us back in the groove for season two:
So much of the show’s second season appears to be focused on one mystery: who is the mysterious Berlin, and what is his relationship to Red? We got some possible answers in the final episode of season one, and these clips certainly paint a picture that supports the daughter narrative, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned about this series, it’s that the things we suspect are often far more complicated than they seem (father/daughter bonding. anyone?).
In the end, what this trailer boils down to is a promise that season two is going to ramp the series up to eleven, and considering the show has the coveted post-Super Bowl slot this year – which Joe Carnahan is writing and directing, we might add – there’s no doubt that promise is going to be fulfilled in full.
