If there’s one thing that the current Golden Age of Television of Television has given us, it’s the flawed protagonist. We’ve met Francis Underwood and Walter White, Selina Meyer and Tyrion Lannister. But few protagonists are so spectacularly flawed as Mad Men‘s Don Draper. Through seven award-winning seasons of creator Matthew Weiner’s portrait of ’60s America, the Madison Avenue advertising whiz (as played to perfection by Jon Hamm) has captivated us with his wit, charm, and creativity. So it’s easy to see how a never-ending parade of otherwise level-headed women have fallen for him, despite the fact that he’s been, more often than not, a married man.
Artist Hannah Choi understands. No stranger to the seductive imagery of illustrations like those which adorn the work of Mad Men‘s ad agency, Choi has crafted a portrait for each of the women whom Don Draper has bedded since we first met him. Former wives Betty and Megan Draper are represented in Choi’s gallery, as are girlfriends like Dr. Faye Miller, and of course Don’s many mistresses, from Midge Daniels to Sylvia Rosen. Sadly Mad Men‘s final episode is fast approaching, and come May 17th, we’ll have met the last of these beguiling, complex women. So let’s begin preparing ourselves for the end with a look back at just a few of them via Choi’s work.
