For those of you having hilarity withdrawals from @midnight not being on this week, you can rest your fretting for the long term. That’s right, Comedy Central has ordered a third season of the points-er-iffic, hashtag-adocious game show where comedians make fun of everything happening on the internet. It’ll still be on Monday-Thursday after The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, and the best part? That third season is a 40-week run. That’s 160 more episodes of Chris Hardwick, celebrity guests, and podiums!
The news was announced by Kent Alterman, President, Content Development and Original Programming for Comedy Central, and he praised the show up and down for its ability to draw in viewers and engage on social media in an unprecedented way. “Creating a new franchise in late night is no small feat, and we couldn’t be more proud of Chris and the entire team for what they’ve accomplished,” said Alterman.
Our Nerdist Overlord was equally tickled by the news and is looking forward to a year of topical humor leading up to that first Tuesday in November of 2016. “Comedy Central has been an amazing and supportive partner for @midnight and I cannot thank them enough,” added Hardwick. “Making inappropriate jokes about Internet culture with my comedian friends is something I would do for the rest of my life if they’d let me. And this pick-up gives us the runway to tackle next year’s election, which I’m guessing will yield no shortage of social media gems.”
So, watch some DVR’d episodes this week while they’re off, but hunker down for even more comedy beginning at 11:59 and 59 seconds.
