X, circle, square and triangle: the input commands that have ushered in 20 years of fond memories and fun moments. The PlayStation era is still running strong, and to commemorate the brand’s first two decades of existence, PlayStation has announced their very first fan convention, The PlayStation Experience (or PSX for short), set to take place in Las Vegas December 6-7, 2014. The game company gave a pretty decent summary of what to expect on their official blog:
“Prepare for two intense days of PlayStation gaming, content, and activities. Attendees will sit in on in-depth panels, meet the industry’s best developers, score hands-on gameplay with tons of upcoming PlayStation games, collect free swag, and get a chance to purchase rare collectibles directly from their favorite game studios. Attendees will also get an exclusive first look at what’s coming next in 2015, which I am told you will not want to miss.”
Though this is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of PlayStation, ramblings within the game community suggest that this event is going to continue for at least the next several years. Why not? There’s plenty of money to be made within the convention scene, and I figured it was only a matter of time before one of the big three (PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo) bet big money on the pass line. PlayStation will be releasing more details about how folks can attend and participate in the event on October 20th. One day passes will run folks $60, and two day passes will give people a bit more value at $90. You may also want to factor in Las Vegas strip expenses too, just in case you happen to make stupid decisions like yours truly and fall into a gambling hole at the craps tables.
It seems a little late in the game to be announcing this, what with folks needing more time to plan travel and accommodations. Nonetheless, this is pretty big news for convention junkies and PlayStation heads alike. Do you plan on attending the first ever PlayStation Experience? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
