Pilot the Millennium Falcon in the STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT Fighter Squadron Mode

The recently-teased Fighter Squadron mode for Star Wars: Battlefront has been fully revealed at today’s EA Gamescom conference. This newly-announced mode consists of 20 player epic aerial dogfights featuring some of the most iconic vehicles from the beloved universe. Piloting X-Wings and Tie Fighters is just the beginning, as players will be able to live out their nerfherding dreams in the Millennium Falcon as well.

Let me repeat that, Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon will be taking flight in this mode. Even better, it looks as nimble and smooth as ever. Senior producer, Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir had the following to say about the new type: “Fighter Squadron will put you inside the cockpit of some of the most memorable vehicles ever seen in the Star Wars galaxy.”

Peep the above video for a full look at what is looking like a promising addition.

The video has plenty of memorable moments, climaxing with Han Solo’s ship coming in to own the battlefield. Furthermore, those who were displeased with a lack of space battles should be pleased with this announcement. Dogfights will undoubtedly flesh out the title, making it all feel more authentic.

I still worry about the lack of content included in the package. Providing iconic characters and vehicles will surely please many fans, but keeping players engaged longer than the first couple of weeks will be the real challenge. History has shown that an inadequate amount of gameplay variety usually leads to a quick loss of players online, which is a huge problem for an onlin-centric title.

But wait, was that a playable Slave I???

Will you be speeding in the skies in Battlefront? Does Fighter Squadron interest you? Let us know in the comments below.
