We all know that the impact of air pollution and smog on our daily lives is a very real threat to our health and wellbeing. But perhaps no one knows this as well as Daan Roosegaarde. This interactive designer has made his dream of a clean future a reality by introducing the Smog Free Tower, the largest and most innovative air purifier in the world.
The idea came to Roosegaarde when he was traveling in Beiijing and experienced the effects of smog on his daily life. He quickly got to work by developing an indoor prototype, and now he’s Kickstarting his project in an effort to build the first outdoor Smog Free Tower. This project combines high-tech science with design and imagination, and we think it’s definitely one to keep on your radar.
The aim is for the tower to create smog-free air zones in the largest and most populated cities in the world, allowing people to understand the issue of air pollution through direct experience. In those areas severely affected by pollution, the Smog Free Tower will harvest enough smog to produce over 3500 Smog Free Cubes per day. Get this — all the smog that the tower collects is processed into the cube, and turned into an exclusive piece of jewelry.
The Smog Free Tower is the first step in building cities that are permanently free of smog, which is great news for anyone out there with lungs.
