Pickstarter: Our Favorite Crowdfunded Projects 9/30

Welcome back to Pickstarter, our exploration of crowdfunded creativity on the internets. This week our picks include kawaii characters for your role-playing, a Day of the Dead dose of comic book creativity, and a mechanical update to a classic pastime from our 5th grade notebooks.

Pick #1 – Nenetl of the Forgotten Spirits: Part 1 of Comic Miniseries

There’s no better way to experience the Day of the Dead than from the other side and Nenetl of the Forgotten Spirits aim to let you do just that. The story follows Nena as she searches for her family and dodges exorcisms during the Dia de los Muertos festival. The art for the book is stylized and sublime, and the story looks to put a novel spin on traditional Halloween ghost stories. The book looks to balance horror with an endearing story for fans of the season of scares.

Pick #2 – Classic Dungeons Adventurers Miniature Set – Chibi Anime Style

Adventuring through a campaign of D&D with your friends can be a blast, but sometimes the graphic depictions of sword and sorcery can be a little much. How do you make your grand adventuring a little more kawaii? How about these cute-as-a-button chibi anime style miniatures. It’s not safe to go alone, so take these adorable adventurers with you and distract the other players with their awesomeness.

Pick #3 – FlipBooKit – Mechanical Flipbook Art and Kit

Most of us will never make an animated movie, but now we can at least make our doodles into art with these mechanical flip books from shinymind. Give your office or living room a touch of class with an inventive art project that celebrates our past. The flip book has been around since before anyone had even thought of the phrase persistence of vision and with one of these boxes you can show off your excellent taste in art and celebrate the most basic form of movie making in all its glory.
