Something about fake money is incredibly appealing. I will never be the person who leaps into action when it comes time to split a check five different ways for a meal, but if you need a banker for a board game or keeper of fake money, I am so in. This extends to tabletop roleplaying games (RPGs). Math is the most fun when you’re adding hundreds of gold pieces to your pouch after finding treasure in a dungeon. But what if you could use tangible money rather than keeping tabs on your wealth with pencil and paper? Enter Fantasy Coins, LLC.
The company designs and manufactures fictional currencies to use in any and all of your roleplaying campaigns. Coins, bars, gems–they’ve got it all and incorporating coinage adds more to the gaming experience. That’s particularly true because Fantasy Coins puts in the effort to make the designs feel and sound like real money. Watch/listen:
Fantasy Coins already has a wide variety of coins available, but they’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to offer 10 brand new coin sets. There are designs for all sorts of games including dwarven-inspired coins, Cthulhu coins and bars, paladin coins, ranger coins, credits for Star Wars campaigns, elven coins, and so many more. I don’t participate in many RPGs these days, but I find myself wanting these coins because the designs and shapes are beautiful. You can see a handful of them in the gallery below.
You have two more weeks to back the campaign. Support levels start at $1 and go up to $1,000. One thousand dollars will buy you over 3,000 coins or 700 gems–all fake of course. Not sure what you would do with that much fake money? The obvious answer is to add another room to your house, dig a pit, and go swimming a la Scrooge McDuck. If you do this, please send us pictures.
