With dozens of superhero movies on the way telling the same tired origin stories we’ve heard dozens of times before, it can get a little exhausting for your average viewer. Plus, these are already established characters with decades of backstory, so why waste time telling an origin story we’ve already heard? With that thought in mind, Andrew Bowser, the filmmaker behind Lady Killers and Monster Machine, set out on a mission: to crowdsource the creation of a brand new superhero based on your suggestions, have a professional artist illustrate those traits into a cohesive design, realize that design with the aid of a talented cosplayer, and bring the brand new superhero to life — all over the course of a single weekend. If it sounds insane, you’re not wrong — but that’s never stopped Bowser before. This isn’t anything you’ve seen before. This isn’t your average run-of-the-mill superhero tale. This is Origin Story.
For the inaugural episode, Bowser trekked all the way to Seattle for Emerald City Comicon where he enlists everyone from Yaya Han to Jim Mahfood to Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez help him crowdsource the hero the world would come to know as The Fantastic Weenis. Then Irish comic book artist Declan Shalvey (Deadpool) turned the madcap madlib into something worthy of its own 12-part maxiseries. Lastly, the terrifically talented Jessica LG transformed the artist’s rendering into a fully wearable cosplay for Bowser to bring to life on the con floor. What could our hero possibly look like? What is his Origin Story? Find out in today’s brand new episode….and then be sure to go see his big screen debut in late 2019.
