Nintendo is Bringing BABYMETAL to SUPER MARIO MAKER

If you would have come to me a few days ago and told me that BABYMETAL, the Japanese pop/metal band, would be making an appearance in Super Mario Maker, I probably would have called you crazy. But, that’s exactly what Nintendo announced, and boy am I stoked. Check out the video at the top of the page to see the quirky collaboration in action.

Earlier today, Nintendo confirmed that the popular band will be making its way to the wonderful world of Super Mario Maker, via a new costume set and event course on April 28. As demonstrated in the trailer, consuming the “mystery mushroom” item will transform you into the metal trio, who move together in unison–similar to the Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam tie-in that released back in December.

The new event level is called “Metal Resistance,” which is also the title of the group’s latest album. While we don’t know for sure whether the content will making its way out west (as it has only been confirmed in Japan at the time of writing), we’re sure it would be welcome, considering the fandom.

In addition to the gameplay, the company released the below trailer, which we are assuming is the official announcement video. The cool thing is that it features the band. Check it out below.

Of course, this isn’t the first trio to make an appearance in the game. Nintendo celebrated Pokémon‘s 20th anniversary by releasing costumes for Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. As for the band, they’re no stranger to the world of video games. Their hit single “Gimme Chocolate” was available as DLC in RockBand 4.
