October is almost here and that means more walkers!! Fear The Walking Dead has given us a glimpse of the initial outbreak, but I, like a lot of you, am clamoring for the real stuff: the ooey-gooey super-decomposed undead that keep Rick Grimes & Co. on their toes. Season 6 will mark the first time that Greg Nicotero and his SFX team will incorporate CGI into a larger number of regular walkers. After all, there’s only so much makeup and practical effects can do to recreate a rotting body when you apply it to a living, fully-intact human being.
In this teaser, the first three faces we see clearly are those of Aaron, Deanna, and Morgan, all shown while Rick is speaking the lines “These people, they gotta take care of themselves. I don’t take chances anymore.” Then we flash to Daryl, who Rick is apparently saying all of this to. “You feel different about it?” Rick asks. Daryl replies “Yeah, I do.” OOOOOH. Interesting. For a very long time, Daryl has been Rick’s de facto Number 2. That dynamic changed a little last season when Rick and Michonne were made, essentially, sheriffs of Alexandria, leaving Daryl outside of the new power structure. We know that Daryl’s been spending lots of time as a runner and a scout alongside Aaron, so we may finally see a difference of ideals between the two men. After all, Daryl has the narrative benefit of being a true wildcard. He does not appear in the comic books whatsoever, and even though he’s become a fan-favorite, the writers can really use him any way they see fit. Will they pit him against Rick? Time will tell. Rick has made some pretty awful decisions in the past, so if it takes Daryl giving him a little beat-down to get him back on track — much like Michonne’s smackdown of Rick last season — I have to say I’m on board.
What do you guys think? Is this the beginning of deep divisions within the original group? Will Daryl run for Mayor of Alexandria? Will Rick ever get his priorities straight? What role will Morgan play in this new community? Sound off in the comments below!
