New Viral Video Explains the Alien Tech of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE

In the War of 1996, humanity put up a unified front against the alien invaders and managed to retake the Earth on the Fourth of July. Or at least that’s how it happened in Independence Day two decades ago. This summer, the aliens are coming back in Independence Day: Resurgence. However, the world they find is greatly changed from the one that they encountered before.

As you may have guessed from the trailers, Independence Day: Resurgence takes place in an alternate 2016 in which humanity has put the alien technology to use for both military and consumer applications. Earlier this week, Twentieth Century Fox released a new viral video for the film that features Jeff Goldblum narrating in-character as David Levinson while explaining how the hybrid alien and human technology works in this world. And while David probably doesn’t mean to inspire any fear with his words, it is somewhat ominous when he admits that even Earth’s best scientists aren’t entirely sure how the hybrid tech works.

It’s also telling that the two technological achievements that David cites are a nano-drone used for spying and a “quantum warp core” vacuum that sucks like a black hole…and it may even share some qualities with black holes. We’d be willing to bet that both of those innovations will come into play during the course of this movie. Although it may be the aliens using the “quantum warp core” against humanity instead of the other way around.

This video doesn’t tell us too much about David’s life after he helped saved the world in 1996, but it is known that David went on to become a worldwide celebrity and the director of Earth Space Defense. Presumably that position has also made him a very wealthy man. But the real question is whether David can save the Earth one more time, especially when the aliens are once again on the verge of annihilating humanity.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be released on Friday, June 24.
