“There’s something wrong with this place,” Det. Castellanos says at one point during this bloody gameplay trailer for The Evil Within, thus putting the line in the running for one of the understatements of 2014.
The latest from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and his new team at Tango Gameworks is – based on this latest trailer – an attempt to put the horror back into the survival horror genre. And that apparently means tons of dead bodies.
This is your first good look at some of The Evil Within‘s gameplay in advance of PAX East.
From the game’s official synopsis:
“While investigating the scene of a gruesome mass murder, Detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partners encounter a mysterious and powerful force. After seeing the slaughter of fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror, and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel what’s behind this evil force.”
The Evil Within will be hitting the Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC on August 23.
