New SHERLOCK and DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special Trailers, and More TV News

It’s time again for a fresh cup of TV-Cap. If you’ve been out of the television news loop since Friday, I’m here to catch you up. See new trailers for Sherlock season four and the Doctor Who Christmas special, get the scoop on J.J. Abrams‘ new space-centered series, find out about a location change for Powerless, and more.

Catching Up with Demons. Season four of Sherlock is seeming ominous. Even with the arrival of Watson’s bouncing baby, the show isn’t getting too warm and fuzzy. I mean, that would be weird, wouldn’t it? A new trailer (above) turns up the darkness. It makes me concerned for the characters I’ve come to know and love, but also concerned that we are really heading towards the end of the BBC series. [Nerdist]

Ready to Dance. Did the recent live production of Hairspray leave you itching for more musicals on television? We hear you. Kendall has a list of nine other musicals we’d like to see on TV; read it here at Nerdist.

Producing Power. Ian Somerhalder won’t be saying goodbye to The CW when The Vampire Diaries wraps up this season. Rare Birds Productions, his and Nikki Reed’s company, is developing a new drama called Transience written by Thomas Brandon. It’s set in a world where consciousness transfers become legal. [Deadline]

Question Review. HBO’s Westworld was packed with questions, and not just viewers’ screams of, “What is going on?!” No, the script was literally peppered with characters asking questions. YouTuber Burger Fiction put them all together in one giant supercut. [Nerdist]

Another Hero? The Flash has a constant rotation of villains moving through, and they occasionally score new heroes. Season three will see the introduction of Gypsy. She’s coming to Earth-1 and she’ll be working with Carlos Valdes’ Cisco/Vibe to some degree. Read more here at Nerdist.

Nominees! Awards season is coming, starting with the Golden Globes on January 8. Nominations were announced Monday morning with nods for series like Westworld, Stranger Things, and Atlanta. Get the full list of nominees right this way.

Superhero on Who. “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” the Doctor Who Christmas special will arrive in less than two weeks (P.S. Christmas is less than two weeks away). The special stars a superhero, and a new trailer shows him in action. He flies, he looks stoic… you know, important heroic qualities. The promo also includes plenty of Nardole, which I’m on board with. [Nerdist]

No More RetCon. DC’s upcoming Powerless, the TV comedy about everyday folks living in a world of superheroes, is undergoing a shift. The series was set at RetCon Insurance, a place where employees deal with insurance claims related to heroes who have caused damages while doing hero business. But now? Powerless will be set at Wayne Security and will follow Emily Locke. She’s been promoted to “Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer.” How do you feel about the change in direction? [CBR]

To Space! J.J. Abrams is executive producing a new drama for HBO. He’s working alongside Javier Gullon and Ben Stephenson to develop a drama called Glare. According to Variety, the series is about “exploring the colonization of another planet.” [Variety]

Puppet Time. Longed to own an Ashy Slashy puppet from Ash vs. Evil Dead? Then start feeling thankful because NECA’s releasing one in 2017. They dropped the news on Twitter with a photo, and the puppet looks surprisingly cuddly. [Nerdist]

Finales! ‘Tis the season for season finales and midseason/fall finales, and that’s what happened with shows that aired over the weekend. We have all the exciting events in recap form; catch up on Dirk Gently, Star Wars Rebels, and The Walking Dead.

What are your opinions on the Golden Globe nominations? Who are you rooting for? Tell me in the comments.
