One week from today, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon‘s cult favorite comic book series, Preacher will permanently escape from development Hell and set up shop on AMC’s Sunday night lineup. And believe us, Hell isn’t the only thing coming up on the show!
Here’s a brand new #Preacher trailer! This show is going to make you happy in every way whether you read the comics or not. It’s a violent, action Western w/ GREAT characters and a Coen brothers-esque vibe. Preacher premieres next Sunday May 22nd at 10p in between the @feartwd & @amctalkingdead mid-season finale and then we’re doing a special Talking Preacher on May 29th w/ @sethrogen Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin and Dominic Cooper (who plays Jesse/Preacher). ENJOY!!!
And for those of you who have never read Preacher, we’re going to breakdown that trailer right now!
The first person we see is Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga), the ex-girlfriend of Preacher’s title character, Jesse Custer, and a very dangerous woman in her own right. Next up is Emily Woodrow, a new character created for the television series. As played by True Blood veteran Lucy Griffiths, Emily is Jesse’s “loyal right hand” at the All Saints Church.
After Emily, we catch a quick glimpse of Sheriff Hugo Root (W. Earl Brown), and his hideously scarred son, Eugene (Ian Colletti). Eugene is actually a nice kid who nearly blew his own head off in a botched suicide attempt, hence his new nickname “Arseface.” Then we see Donny Schenck (Derek Wilson), a man that Jesse will have to put a hurtin’ on as he takes a piece of meat from Odin Quinncannon, whom we’ll meet later in the season when Jackie Earle Haley shows up for a few episodes.
Now we’re getting into the otherworldly territory. Did you think that DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) and Fiore (Tom Brooke) were criminals just because they’re clearly hiding a body in that container? Let’s just say that they are a lot more than they seem to be. As for Cassidy (Joe Gilgun), he’s exactly what he seems to be: an Irish vampire who loves to get drunk. He’s also not above lighting himself on fire with the sun when he can’t get his lighter to work.
Finally, we meet the man himself, Jesse Custer, as portrayed by Dominic Cooper. Even before the events of the series, Jesse was not a man you would want to pick a fight with. And he’s not like any preacher that you’ve ever seen. All of this is the calm before the storm. Once the series premiere of Preacher hits next Sunday, May 22, that’s when the real fireworks begin.
