From the trailers and teasers we’ve reported on before, we know that Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson will serve as the law enforcement this time around. Wilson will be playing a younger version of season one’s Lou Solverson (played in the first season by Keith Carradine) and Danson will be playing his police chief. The reluctant criminals will be played by Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia) and Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Plemons.
Their characters, Peggy and Ed Blumquist, are featured in Entertainment Weekly in photographs by Art Streiber:
Kirsten told EW that she has “such an awesome arc to play, it’s like a 10-hour movie.” While season one revolved around the mistakes and murders perpetrated by Martin Freeman’s Lester Nygaard (and aided by Billy Bob Thornton’s Lorne Malvo), it would appear that the role of morally ambiguous character will fall to Dunst’s Peggy Blumquist. Her husband Ed (Plemons) is described as dim, but devoted. While he may at various points provide the grunt work, it is Peggy who will be pulling the strings.
The Blumquists get tied up into a local gangland war, with Jean Smart playing the matriarch of one of the criminal syndicates. Danson, Wilson, Plemons and Dunst join Smart in the second photo, below:
Fargo returns to FX this fall on September 21st.
