We’re only a couple of weeks away from December 25, and while most of the population are worried about getting all their gifts bought in time, I’m much more excited about this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, titled “Last Christmas,” which I can only hope means we’ll get a WHAM! song in there somewhere. We’ve got to, right?
From what we can tell, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) will meet back up with Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman, who may or may not be leaving the show at this point; it’s a mystery) and have to help, or possibly get helped by, Santa Claus (Nick Frost) and two of his elves (Misfits‘ Nathan McMullen and a makeup-less Strax a/k/a Dan Starkey). It all involves some kind of gooey-mouthed alien menace, which is maybe the most Christmasy thing of all time.
We have a gallery of new images to share from “Last Christmas,” and more than I’m comfortable with include an orange, or some kind of orange fruit (too big to be a satsuma), in the Doctor’s and Santa’s hands. Is this some kind of tell or clue about a major thing happening in the episode, or is it just Steven Moffat once again pushing the citrus agenda?
I mean, why are they there?!?! I guess we’ll find out in two Thursdays’ time.
“Last Christmas” was written by Steven Moffat and directed by Paul Wilmshurst. In addition of the people I’ve mentioned, the special will also guest star Michael Troughton (yes, son of Patrick), Faye Marsay, Natalie Gumede, and Maureen Beattie, all of whom I’ve never heard of.
