New ATTACK ON TITAN Trailer Shows Game’s New and Familiar Titans

Eren’s on the loose, y’all! Fans of Attack on Titan got big surprises and plot details when the trailer for the game made its way to E3 on Tuesday. And though there won’t be many of the Titans from the anime in the mix, there will be several that manga fans are sure to know. Oh, and it’ll also be freakin’ awesome as evidenced by the gameplay we saw during the announcement.

Taking place after the plot-twisting events of the anime series iteration of Attack on Titan, the game—slated to release on August 30, 2016 on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, as well as digital-only on the PlayStation Vita handheld system, PlayStation 3 and PC via Steam—will find players able to take control of protagonist Eren’s powerful Titan form and get up close and personal with the eerily human-like nightmare creatures.

In an interview with Playstation Lifestyle, producer Hisashi Koinuma was quoted as saying that though the game, “will feature Titans specific to this game, [t]here will also be Titans that have not appeared in the anime which fans of the original manga are familiar with.”

Per our own Dan Casey, who’s down at E3 checking out all the new games and consoles, Attack on Titan is “primarily drawing on the anime, story-wise, but they’re peppering in some new titans as enemy types.” That, it seems, is where the manga-era Titans will also come into play.

As for what goes down in the trailer itself, the footage shows the Survey Corps swinging around the no man’s land between Wall Rose and Wall Maria, using their 3D Maneuver Gear to propel themselves around the city and wreak bloody havoc on those nightmarish Titans. Per Casey, “Fans will notice many familiar faces from the anime, including Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi, and many more.”

The arrival of new Titans is a nice hold over for fans of the anime who’ve been waiting for three years for a second season (even if it’s not, y’know, another season). What do you think of the trailer? Let us know in the comments below.

Here are 8 other Anime we would love to see as video games:
