During the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) thought he could win back the trust of Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team, and he aligned with them against Hydra. But Skye/Daisy (Chloe Bennet) shot him and even Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) tried to kill him at one point.
However, Ward didn’t hate his former teammates until after Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) tricked him into murdering his lover, Agent 33 (Maya Stojan). But that only happened because the late Agent 33 and Ward had kidnapped and severely tortured Bobbi Morse a.k.a. Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki). When last seen, Ward was assembling the remnants of Hydra to get his revenge.
Ward was conspicuously absent in this week’s third season premiere, but he’ll be back in next week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and his plans will have progressed. In the first preview scene from the second episode of the season, Ward and his new right-hand man, Kebo (Daz Crawford), demonstrate what will happen to the dead weight in the new Hydra. We also learn that Ward is looking for someone.
Next week’s episode will also catch up with May and her ex-husband, Dr. Andrew Garner (Blair Underwood) as their extended vacation nears its end. Plus, Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and team make another bid to rescue Simmons from the alien monolith by consulting Professor Elliot Randolph (Peter MacNicol), an Asgardian living on Earth whom the team encountered back in the first season!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 continues on Tuesday, October 6.
