Nerdist Presents: FRIENDS: REBOOTED

♫ So no one told you life was gonna be this way… ♫

It’s been a full month since Netflix released all ten seasons of Friends, which means we’ve had plenty of time to rewatch the series from start to finish. And though we’ve had a blast reliving Ross’ failed marriages, the uber-90s fashion, and Joey’s passionate love affair with pizza, we can’t help but wonder, what would the show be like if it were set in 2015? Classic episodes like “The One With The Blackout” and “The One Where Ross Finds Out” would be moo(t)… everyone would have cell phones!

And so it came to pass that we took it upon ourselves to reboot Friends. Yes, really. Created by Nerdist’s own Ben Mekler and Andrew Bowser, and featuring a sweet remix by Freddy Scott of The Remembrandts’ indelible tune, the show takes the classic sitcom and puts a fresh, millennial spin on it. And luckily for all you Friends fans out there, we’ve got a sneak peek of the opening credits. Could we BE any more excited?

Without further ado, Nerdist PresentsFriends: Rebooted.

Which of your favorite ’90s sitcoms would be forever changed by a modern reboot? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Carol says:

Funny story from behind the scenes. The real audience was too busy texting so the laughs were added in afterwards for effect.

  2. Katie says:

Friends was already rebooted – it’s called How I Met Your Mother.

  3. bpunct says:

    Small Wonder!

  4. natalie says:

I Wouldn’t mind full house being redone

  5. Cozzie says:

    Red dwarf

  6. I had fun with your video. Thanks for sharing this post!

  7. Pinball Magician Slayer T-1000 says:

It’s not 90’s (or maybe early 90’s), but I would reboot Prefect Strangers.

  8. Maria says:

Still no black people in New York I guess

  9. Crazy Bill says:

That was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I prefer the other guys who did the remake of the opening for a college product. Please, just stop.

  10. Mark Miller says:

What you’re missing is the nuances of what apps they are actually using and what they are tweeting about.

Let me know when you want work something up for that.

  11. Mook says:

This is depressing, all too true on every front.

  12. mpr24 says:

Bad hipster jokes?? They saw Hootie and the Blowfish! They would not be alt now.

  13. Rasitlin says:

This seems more like Friends: Hipster edition than millenials.

  14. ericmci says:

nothing but cheap shots and tired tropes.I bet this sounded a lot better over some pbr’s’And then.. AND Then!  The dj brings a brutal dubstep drop!’
yeah.Oh I get they’re all obsessed with their phones! That’s a fresh take.I take it all back.

  15. CS says:

I found all of the characters unlikable. The fashions were so 1980’s. Bored now.

  16. caitlin says:

  17. Michael says:

Oh wow… This is actually really funny!

  18. Kayti says:

I really thought this would be a more clever comment on society than just “people use their phones a lot”. Yeah, we get it. Little computers in our pockets with endless entertainment. And we use them a lot. Shocking.

  19. Cynical Jenna says:

This is when I clarify that I’m in the older millennial cohort.

  20. Underinspired says:

This joke is so played out it’s ridiculous. “OMG Those millenials never get off their phones!!! L O L!!!!” I literally said to myself “man I really hope the joke isn’t that they’re always on their phones.” Sigh.

  21. Orionsangel says:

    Well done Nerdist

  22. Ben says:

As great as this was, it also made me embarrassed for my generation.

  23. GawlyGee says:

Haha oh no wish it wasn’t true… but it is! Maybe with all this 90’s fashion coming back people will ditch their phones more?

  24. alex says:

this was so perfect. i’m not offended at all, it was hysterical and spot on. i’m still going to be glued to my phone but i can definitely laugh at funny shit

  25. Jenna says:

So glad you guys made this, and while I know it’s for comedy, it proves a sad point. Friends don’t let friends act like this. It’s why I gave up my cell phone a few months ago. I make eye contact now! With PEOPLE!

  26. xero says:

awe offended Millennials?…do something about it
