Nerdist Podcast: Robert Patrick

Robert Patrick sits down with Chris Hardwick to talk about his 30 plus years in the industry.

Chris and Robert bond over both being from the south and the different type of southern accents, and talk about his new role in the TV show Scorpion. Robert then talks about starting his career, dropping out of college and moving to L.A. and living in his car with no contacts or plan while trying to pursue acting work. Roles in Roger Corman movies ultimately led to an opportunity to audition for Die Hard 2, and he ended up cast as T-1000 in Terminator 2, the role that defined his career….

Watch the premiere of Scorpion, Monday, September 22nd at 9/8c on CBS!

  1. sPaCe MoNk3y says:

Is it just me or does he sound exactly like Charlie Sheen?

  2. David says:

I just somehow knew this guy would be a very cool bastard. He’s made it into my Hollywood friends club 😀

    … … … I’ve said too much

  3. pasta-acosta says:

Thank you for saying that you love Memphis.  We’re such and underdog city, and are making strides to build the communities back up!

  4. Linda Hamilton says:

Chris! You’re thinking of Michael Biehn’s son, Caelan. Right franchise, wrong film. He works with Adam Carolla and on Alison Rosen’s podcast.

  5. Dammit, so sad Robert is not appearing Sons Of Anarchy again. But great interview! loved it.

  6. Ross says:

    I. too, have been a RP fan for ages, but never knew much about the man; unsurprisingly, he’s just the sort of solid, non-nonsense, cool guy his body of work suggests–like all the best character actors. And I also loved “The Unit”, esp those scenes with RP and Dennis Haysbert(whose work I’ve admired since he & Eric Close did “Now and Again”) facing each other down. There was so much gravitas there, it’s a wonder the set didn’t sink into the earth. I was beginning to sense, from Patrick’s last few roles, that the GA drawl was native to him; people tend to lean into their original accents as they age–it’s just more noticeable with actors who tamped it down early in their careers(the exception being Nicholson, who invented his drawl to erase his native East Coast accent).

  7. SusieQ says:

Robert Patrick could be Daryl Dixon’s long lost older brother!  The look a lot alike, both love to ride motorcycles, RP was born in GA.  Great podcast!

  8. Joe says:

So glad he talked about his brother Richard. I’ve always wondered about their relationship.

  9. What do I look like to you?  A sitting duck.

  10. calfaro says:

No one probably cares but I wanted to chime in and help clear up the confusion with Chris telling Robert about his son who works for Carolla. Its Michael Biehn’s son who works there. Understandable to mix the two since they’re both legendary Terminator actors.

  11. so chris managed to get through the whole show without mentioning that he also did a terminator movie. 😛

  12. thecowardmccall says:

<— LOOK my guy is green!!!….    robert smith seems to be one of those guys that I’ve always enjoyed but never bothered to find out much about… was cool to hear his story 😀

    • thecowardmccall says:

  14. Quasar Sniffer says:

From blockbusters to weird indie films to TV, Robert Patrick nails everything he’s in. I’ve been an admirer of his for such a long time. As usual, Chris brings out some great stories and it becomes an enlightening conversation. Loved the episode.

  16. Ben says:

There needs to be a trent reznor podcast! I want to hear the stories and the genius that he has! Please make it happen

  17. luckymustard says:

The T-1000 listened to Nine Inch Nails!  I foresee a Trent Reznor appearance on this pod soon.

  18. Corran says:

I would TOTALLY watch Clark Kyle’s “Live eviL” video diary #righthereonthenerdistchanne. I would love to her the evil version of that laugh.
