  1. Thomas says:

Obviously, the dream means that Johnny Carson is Chris’ Yoda.

  2. Ross says:

I don’t think Regis ever had his own late night show, per se, but he first became known nationally as Joey Bishop’s sidekick in the ’60s(he may have filled in a few times).
And, in the historical context department, the cliche of a completely broke person being reduced to wearing a barrel isn’t a ’20s or ’30s image–it was already an anachronism by then, much like little old ladies dressed in black gowns with white lace collars(a la Jonathan Winters as Maude Frickert in the ’60s) was a generation or more old when Clara Peller was dressed as that visual shorthand in the ’80s.

  3. Sam Katz says:

“do we need to consult Pullman on this or do we just…”
“Who the fuck would want to be president!”
Chris you are just great! 22 mins in and this is already one of my favorite episodes. THANK YOU

  4. Wendy says:

Thank you for this one Chris. Listening to Rob and Jon’s memories was a joy.

Keeping with nerd heroes from the 80’s… I see that Thomas Dolby (SCIENCE!) is touring the US next month. I know you had him on the TV show, but a full podcast with Mr. Dolby would be a thing of beauty. Fingers crossed that you’ll all be in the same city at the same time.

  5. Jacky Dan says:

I love interviews like these when to get perspectives of writers, animators, and directors for fim/tevelvision who typically don’t get much attention from media because the work behind the scenes. They have such interesting stories and experiences that I think anyone seeking to go into the entertainment industry can benefit from

  6. Patty Marvel says:

    @toonsmyth – That was awesome!
    That was fascinating!

    That was awesome!
    That was fascertainiiiiiiing!

(Am looking forward to the next Hostful in the hope they use your black and white pic. It’s been a while since there was such an episode…)

  7. Anthony says:

Enjoyed the science behind the top 10. nids mi moar grafs of peepol vs jok typ.

CH, seems like you’ve gathered enough “howtos” to be the vanguard in the next wave of talk show hosts. But can you ever find yourself delegating most of your joke and skit writing to others, like all of the other talk shows, when you have to do it on daily basis?

  8. toonsmyth says:

That was awesome. Fascinating and entertaining. It was fascertaining!

  9. Wildride says:

Or get Bill Paxton on to do a bunch of Bill Pullman for President spots.

  10. CrumpsBrother says:

Mr. Hardwick, you now have to get Bill Pullman to do a series of campaign ads on the Nerdist channel.

  11. Wildride says:

2016: Bill Pullman vs Martin Sheen for the US Presidency.

  12. Wildride says:

    Sexy pants?!? Thanks for noticing.

  13. Admiral Kent says:

I NEVER missed Letterman’s NBC show when I was a teen…saw many great bits when they aired…The bullhorn Bryant Gumble incident…Dave dropping in on the girl who worked in the shoe store…monkey cam…miss it!! I gave the CBS show a try, but it just wasn’t the same.

  14. Patty Marvel says:

Per the intro, I’ve found a REALLY simple way to financially support the Nerdist Channel and it won’t cost ya’ll but a few cents of electricity.

I don’t watch every show (sorry, Team Nerdist) because I’m not really into cosplay or LARPing, *but* I wanted to support the channel and thought I’d do so by clicking the “Play All” button on “World of LARP” before I left the house one day, thinking each episode would play once along with each commercial at the start of them. Since the advertisers don’t know that no one is at home when their commercials play, much less if anyone is watching them, I thought this could work out for everyone.

Imagine my surprise when I came home ten hours later and the darned thing was still playing. Apparently the “Play All” option on YouTube shows also loops, so those pre-episode ads where shown several times, which means even more money for Team Nerdist.

Just something to share amongst fans who might not have a lot of disposable income at the moment.

  15. jgarfink says:

Chris, I would just like to say how much I love your laugh. Seriously.

  16. bsg says:

    ooops, i jumped the gun….

  17. bsg says:

They forgot the key element to a good top ten list…
