It’s been a super week for podcasts here on Nerdist.com – literally. We’ve finally brought the fruits of our labor from Comic-Con International as The Nerdist Podcast Network Super Panel takes over Gil Letelier’s The Mutant Season this week. Join emcee Matt Mira (Nerdist, James Bonding), our gracious host Gil, Jonah Ray (Nerdist, Jonah Raydio), Janet Varney (The JV Club), Cole Stratton (Pop My Culture), Ben Blacker (Nerdist Writers Panel, Nerdist Comics Panel, Thrilling Adventure Hour), Ben Acker (Thrilling Adventure Hour), Sandra Daugherty (Sex Nerd Sandra) and Dave Ross (Terrified) as they talk about why the participate in casts of the pod variety, their individual approaches to the format, and share some of the most memorable stories from their storied careers as ‘casters.
Speaking of Comic-Con, the Thrilling Adventure Hour took a break from their adventuresome antics to answer fans’ burning questions with a back-and-forth from their live Welcome to Nightvale Crossover. The fan Q&A was led by series creators Bens Acker & Blacker with Workjuice players Marc Evan Jackson, Mark Gagliardi, Craig Cackowski and Hal Lublin, and special guests Molly Quinn and Jason Ritter. Find out what greets America with each new morn? What tastes the best and costs the least and keeps the wheels of progress greased? We think you may know the answer, but listen here to the answers you’ve been searching for.
We’re all going to need to renew that gym membership, because we are happily snacking again with the return of Mike and Tom Eat Snacks! MATES is the podcast where your favorite funnymen, Michael Ian Black (The State, Stella) and Tom Cavanagh (Ed, CW’s upcoming The Flash) eat, discuss, and rate snack food. Upon their glorious return to the podcasting world after almost a year in the afterlife, Mike and Tom discussed their deaths, because where else could they have been if they weren’t doing this amazing show, in addition to munching on the delectable snack, HARD BOILED EGGS. Tune in and hear what two friends who eat, discuss, and rate snacks have to say about a classic culinary confection, the amazing edible egg.
Over on the flagship Nerdist Podcast it’s been one big name after the other as Jason Biggs (American Pie, Orange is the New Black), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex, Underworld), and Mira Sorvino (BBCA’s Intruders, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion) all stopped by to get a healthy dose of comedic conversation. Biggs felt right at home talking about his career and family with Chris and Jonah, while Sheen brought the always incredible Sarah Silverman along to talk Stephen King and stalking, or the stalking of Stephen King really. Mira Sorvino wowed the guys with her hardcore nerd cred as she regaled them with stories of mastering multiple languages and studying abroad in China, before moving on to making the most memorable dance scene in cinematic history. Okay, maybe I’m just projecting on that. But she does talk about the much beloved cult classic Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, and that, my friends, is some damn fine burrito.
In addition to joining Gil and the rest of the Nerdist Podcast Network on the Comic-Con Podcast Super Panel, Janet Varney had a brand spanking new episode of her own show this week. It’s time to say goodbye to the Boys of Summer as Ms. Varney welcomes Keegan Michael Key of Key and Peele fame to her show, The JV Club. Janet’s innate ability to get deep into people’s pasts turns up some truly enlightening conversation about being adopted and getting along with people. Come for the conversation, stay for the chili cheese fries… conversation.
The rest of the Networks’ pop-culture obsessed podcasts have been plugging along as well. For an update on Jay Chandrasekhar‘s attempt to dominate every podcast in existence, check out this week’s Pop My Culture. Listen to Jay’s Broken Lizard Cohorts Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan as they were Chewin’ It with Drop Dead Diva’s April Bowlby. Pete Holmes is giving us a double dose of You Made It Weird by chatting up Rob Corddry and then going inside his own weird mind with Dr. Tim Royer. Quick Draw gets a break down on the Nerdist Writers’ Panel with Ben Blacker, before he shifts gears to talk about comics with Jeremy Whitley on the Nerdist Comics Panel. Don’t lose your head, Clarke Wolfe is continuing to guide you through the 1st season of Sleepy Hollow before the show’s return next month. This week she’s joined by producers Damian Kindler and Melissa Blake on the SleepyCast. And finally, Eva Marie and Jessica Chobot tag in to bring you a diva filled Wrestling Compadres Slamcast. Then give yourself a leg up at bar trivia by tuning in to hear What’s New host Christian Spicer make a guest appearance on Today We Learned!
That’s a buffet of burritodom to choose from so pick and click a show, sit back, relax and let those sweet words take you away to aural bliss, “Now entering the Nerdist Podcast.”
