Nerdist Podcast: Brendon Small

The hilarious and musically talented Brendon Small hangs out with the guys at Swinghouse Studios to talk and play guitar! They talk about guitars, the similarity between “Wicked Game” and a certain novelty song of recent vintage, more guitars, comedy, Queen, Metalocalypse, Brendon’s new album Galaktikon, metal operas, and more…

  1. COBAJ says:

Hey seriously, Brendon Small was about to play more from the Klok Opera, and possibly the divine Duel, and then some dildo comes in and he’s cut short? The world was robbed of a treasure…Great podcast tho.

  2. ServoRules says:

After hearing this podcast I had to see if the rock opera was out there, someone has a copy of it! It’s kind of a bad recording, but it’s listenable.

Hopefully his site does not crash now with everyone trying to listen to it.

  3. omniosi says:

Thanks so much for this!!! Loved “Home Movies” and even tho I’m not a rock guy, still enjoy “Metalocalypse”!

Did not expect this episode to be so inspiring.

  4. Carmamoniponatron says:

I am SO happy you guys got a podcast with Brendon. LOVE all his work and it was nothing short of amazing to listen to him talk about such things himself, with you guys no less. 😀

  5. Ladderface says:

While the unfortunately crummy quality recording of the tron rock opera (recorded at spaceland?) has pretty much entirely disappeared online, as late as last month it could still be found if you look hard enough. Hopefully there will be a chance to record a version that does it justice soon!

  6. Kanye Twitty says:

    A Deathklokwork Operange.

  7. cory says:

Am I the only person picturing the guys chatting with Brendon from Home Movies? I can even see Jason and Melissa sitting in the room not allowed to talk. Dear lord, cartoon have rotted my brain. Awesome!

  8. bill cosby says:

I did it. I finally did it. I made it to the latest episode!! I finally got caught up!!

  9. Andrea says:

Two things that must happen in the Nerdist world –

    1) Tron Opera
    2) Savage Trailer (we’re still waiting)

  10. nicholas says:

I would totally listen to a guitar talk podcast. I’ve been wanting this to happen since Matt first mentioned get guitarded.

  11. Ap1s2k says:

This episode is awesome! Brendon small is like the metal version of Seth Macfarlane, funny, smart and a great musician! You guys should have him on more often. He’s so talented!

  12. Atticus says:

    @jal : YANA

Also, great podcast. Home Movies is one of my favorite shows in the history of ever. It got me through some tough times while I stayed up late watching episode after episode.

  13. Kyle S. says:

jal, no, it’s not just you. I just see a link where Chris’ avatar should be. Same with Emily Gordon.

This podcast was such a treat. Thank you, gentlemen. I’m a little jealous of all the people listening to King Diamond for the first time.

  14. Kris Leisman says:

You guys definitely need to record that Tron stuff. I have always loved Brendan Small and a recorded collab about Tron would be absolutely amazing.

  15. Slash says:

I can listen to Brendon play all day.

  16. jal says:

Is it just me, or can anyone else see that Chris’ avatar pic is missing? I get the image link instead of an image. It’s been broken for months and it’s driving me nuts seeing empty space where there should be a pic!

  17. @Andy: sooooooooooooooooooooooon

  18. Andy Ellis says:

Haven’t heard this episode yet, but can anyone tell me if there is a place where we can Nerdist merchandise. I wanted to get a shirt to wear to your show in Minneapolis last week, but I couldn’t find anything.

  19. @gary: we don’t have a not-fucked-up recording of it.

  20. Adam says:

This should be great. I am just now finishing up the Comedy Bang Bang episode from the other week where he did some of the best character work that’s ever been done on the show and that is a high bar of character work.

  21. NateE says:

Brendon Small is amazing. Home Movies and Metalocalypse are two of the most awesome cartoons ever. I’ve seen Dethklok play every time they’ve come to the Bay Area and they continue to impress. Their live show is like seeing a band but in the style of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ (Metal Edition). If anyone here listens to this podcast and doesn’t want to watch Doomstar Requiem just kills yourselves. Chris & Co. you did an awesome job balancing the guitar with the interview.

  22. gary says:

I haven’t listened to the podcastyet, but can you guys post the Tron Musical? I remember hearing about it on JJGo a long time ago and it would be great to finally hear it.
