Regardless, I think it would be HAAALARIOUS if some one did a star trek themed flash mob at a republican convention. Jessica-Star says: February 25, 2012 at 12:04 pm I was listening to this episode last night while driving home in a wicked bad ice storm. The whole ep was great, and I thought Matt’s comments and protestations were amusing but made moreso by Chris’ parental distancing schtick. The call back later however was hilarious! I was so emotionally invested in the conversation that I doubled over laughing and completely misjudged the spatial relationship of my head to the steering wheel–swerved the car a little on the icy highway–but was fine and the only thing hurt was my dignity. Anyway, just some anecdotal evidence for Matt’s theories. Noodle stories. Carl says: February 25, 2012 at 10:24 am Had to pause a few minutes in to comment. One, congratulations Chris on taping your special, I can’t wait to see it. You were beating yourself up because you forgot to use your “saver” bit? Doesn’t that mean everything went so well you didn’t HAVE to use it? Humblebrag! 🙂 And Two, about the movies with twist endings like 6th Sense / Fight Club – it’s now a hobby of mine to try to shoehorn EVERY movie into that sort of thing. What if the Driver died in the elevator scene and was just the girl for the rest of the movie? What if *everyone* in Terminator 4 was already a machine hybrid and just didn’t know it? And *every* buddy movie, both leads are actually different aspects of the same person. Jeff Whaley says: February 24, 2012 at 10:23 pm Matt Mira laughing harder at his horrible statements while Chris and Jonah slowly distant themselves from him is exactly what happens with me and my friends, so I understand and love your awful sexism Matt. Right there with you buddy! fan-droid says: February 24, 2012 at 9:47 pm I don’t know about ya’ll, but this one peaked for me right about quements time. Sometimes show-snapping makes me piss myself… Lori says: February 24, 2012 at 7:33 am Loved this hostful! My boss caught me laughing alone in my office once or twice, but the strange looks were worth it. And being nice to Matt would change the group dynamic, which is already perfect and why we all listen. Kelly says: February 23, 2012 at 7:21 pm Certified Vagina-Havers (CVHs) like myself can most definitely take a joke, but just not such an obvious, overused, hackneyed joke. Insult my vagina with a pinch of originality, please! Patti says: February 23, 2012 at 6:37 pm Very funny podcast, guys! I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. I really love the hostful podcasts! This by far is one of the best hostfuls yet, let just say I would but an album that was titled “My Hands are Fat”. You guys had me laughing so much, thank you. David says: February 23, 2012 at 10:27 am My birthday is Pi Day too! TheZenNerd says: February 23, 2012 at 10:19 am I too didn’t hear back from the folks about the Comedy Central Show in NYC. At first I was a bit annoyed about not hearing from them and went to write a scathing e-mail, SCATHING I tell you! Then I re-read the original e-mail they sent. While it wasn’t totally obvious, it did pretty much say that you would hear from them IF you got tickets. I did send an e-mail just to clarify (not scathing, more on the polite side) and they promptly replied back letting me know that tickets were gone BUT that I could be put on a cancellation list. Anyway, bummed I missed the show but I don’t think anyone should be fired. Oh and BEST Hardwick quote so far – “Kool-aid man fucked my butt…” Three Toes of Fury says: February 23, 2012 at 9:20 am Havent heard the podcast yet so i think im in the perfect place to speak to Matts comments….reprehensible! #sarcasm Tom Kurzanski: Sweet Gravy is that graphic AWESOMETASTICULAR! Hrmm…that sounds too much like “testicular”…lemme try again… That graphic is AMAZEABALLS!….Hrmm…not much better. Anyhoo, you get my point, outstanding artwork sir. Loooove the personalized nerdist symbol for each. will hire you someday to do one with 3 toes for me. Peace .n. Nerdistas 3ToF Justin says: February 23, 2012 at 8:36 am Whenever you guys are jokingly mean to Matt, like when Jonah sounds especially harsh, I listen to Matt’s response. When he can still laugh and joke, I gain tons of respect for him. I am kind of mean to my friends as a joke and when they get offended it annoys me, (yes I get annoyed when my friends get mad at how mean I am.) But in any event, the fact that Matt can brush it off makes me like him more. Plus…Jonah is so good at being sarcastic, don’t let him stop. Rose says: February 23, 2012 at 6:58 am Matt I just think people don’t get the Boston sense of humor. An insult = love. MinnItMan says: February 23, 2012 at 6:52 am The Nook is splendid for a gut-bomb burger, but plan on waiting. I enjoy your show, and the interview with Jeff Tweedy was seriously good. I loved whoever’s comment about only wanting to listen to things that were like YFH for the next several months – I had the same reaction, yet IMO now, it’s the least awesome wilco record. Although I’ve been a long-time wilco/Tweedy fan, I hadn’t ever heard such extended comments from him. He really is a credit to humanity and an adequate weatherman. Still reserving judgment on you guys, tho… Billy says: February 23, 2012 at 2:30 am Never mind didn’t notice it said at the top Louie says: February 23, 2012 at 2:20 am THE INTERNET SAYS: 28 Days Later – Released: November 2002 (UK) The Walking Dead: Issue #1 – Released: October 2003 Billy says: February 23, 2012 at 2:07 am Love the artwork, who is the artist? richard says: February 23, 2012 at 1:54 am when i first saw garlin’s “breakup in a noisy diner”, i had a eyes-bug-out laughing experience. jonah pretty much got the point across well, but the prolonged ending is what makes it BRILLIANT. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/5693039/breakup_in_a_noisy_diner/ Abbey says: February 22, 2012 at 8:45 pm ps. I appreciate Matt bringing attention to this highly underrated skill. But It’s REALLY hard to drive and make a sandwich at the same time. Plus our ovaries are always getting in the way. Cut us some slack guys. Roy Campos says: February 22, 2012 at 8:11 pm Chris- Good call on not going along with Matt’s joke about women. I too have had the dismay of laughing at a sexist joke and ending up in an endless array of trouble for it. Matt- Don’t get me wrong, I laughed my ass off when you first said the joke and every time you called it back. Lol I had headphones on… Kristina M. says: February 22, 2012 at 6:29 pm Matt–The Signs thing bugged me, too. It has since I watched the movie. Water! R.E. Dynamite says: February 22, 2012 at 5:24 pm By reading the comments it appears women are terrible drivers and can’t take a joke. Jane Doe says: February 22, 2012 at 3:24 pm Chris, while I’m in absolute agreement on your attempts to call out Matt’s sexist attempts at science based humour, let’s not forget who made a clitorectomy joke on Doug Loves Movies! Anywho, great episode otherwise (& I’m looking forward to seeing the comedy special; glad to hear it went well) Kevin says: February 22, 2012 at 3:15 pm Damn, I mailed my Blur albums to Jonah Radio before I listened to this. Moni says: February 22, 2012 at 2:42 pm I can’t even believe you guys mentioned Jonathan Brandis. That boy got me throught middle school and most of high school. I loved him so much. I love you guys btw. <3 AmandaBrooke says: February 22, 2012 at 2:29 pm Favorite artwork so far. The Jonah head looks very Peter Dinklage-y to me. Chris Hardwick says: February 22, 2012 at 1:51 pm @LT: you completely misunderstand…Jonah fucks with Matt like an older brother. I only harass him like a parent when I see him get hard on himself, or maybe not appreciate the good side of something. But, like a parent, it’s only because I love him and have made the same mistakes so I have a bit of wisdom. But we certainly don’t just say, “hey let’s be mean to Matt!!!” Well, maybe Jonah does. BUT NOT ME!!! We really are a typical family. Nick Sierra says: February 22, 2012 at 1:26 pm Matt Mira – Stay awesome, cool? LT says: February 22, 2012 at 1:13 pm I’m sure it’s never been said before, but you two are entirely too mean to Matt. He IS the lovable one, if only by default. HK says: February 22, 2012 at 1:02 pm Hey Jonah! Do you accept vinyl for your radio show? Matt Mira says: February 22, 2012 at 12:50 pm Anna, It was a joke. But I did read the article. The fact that culture is largely responsible isn’t really a huge surprise. Thanks for passing it along. “Women are better at verbal… Thingies” was sort of my way of letting the audience know. MM MM Anna says: February 22, 2012 at 1:16 pm Sorry, but it was hard to tell if you were joking or not. A lot of smart men that I otherwise have a lot of respect for believe that kind of stuff, and you did start citing articles…But good to know you’re not a sexist jerk 😉 Also, thanks for reading the article and replying! Roger Clendening II says: February 22, 2012 at 12:45 pm The short film Matt referenced — written and directed by Jeff Garlin — is called “Breakup in a Noisy Diner.” I found it on FunnyOrDie.com. Anna says: February 22, 2012 at 12:38 pm Matt Mira – The whole spatial reasoning thing, like the math and science thing, is total bullshit. Think honestly about the structure of our society. Think about the roles women have traditionally been allowed to take in society in the United States. People, in general are adaptable and will get really good at whatever role they are allowed. I mean, 50 or 60 years ago a lot of whites were still convinced that black people all had a “physical intelligence,” but not much academic prowess. This is obviously not true – blacks then were just largely not given the opportunity to display any other cognitive abilities due to society’s expectations and restrictions. Similarly, the widely held belief in women’s tendency toward social and verbal abilities vs spatial and math and science abilities is probably similarly caused. Take a look at this article: http://www.livescience.com/15823-culture-gender-gap-spatial-abilities.html Cody M. says: February 22, 2012 at 12:29 pm Does anyone else ever feel like one of the three guys kind of drags the show down? Ben Z says: February 22, 2012 at 12:25 pm Two questions: 1) When is Man-Droid airing on television and what channel? 2) When is the Matt Mira cartoon coming out? I assume it’s coming based on that awesome cartoon of him. OR! Is Matt Mira Plastic Man? Logan says: February 22, 2012 at 12:04 pm Seems like you guys were pretty harsh on that guy with the 28 days later question. Perhaps he just wanted to show some love for the show by sending in a question. You didn’t have to read it if it was a lame one.
