Live in Northampton, Massachusetts at the intimate and legendary “Iron Horse”! Talk of sausages! Dueling Jeff Goldblums! And in-person quemments! This show was a creamy pile of awesome with hug jimmies on top. Thank you a billion times to all of the awesome nerds who came out to see us!!

Comments

  1. Jet Raincoat says:

The Dave Mathews Band bashing is getting REALLY old. I don’t even like that band but *come on*.

  2. Virginia Slim says:

Damn, I was pumped for an interview with the Metallica-covering bluegrass band Iron Horse. :(

  3. Martin says:

@Ben – aw come on, give Mira Booey a break! I only found Nerdist a month or so ago and have been going through all of the episodes (at an alarming rate) and Matt has been rather quiet of late.. I thought it was adorable that familiar grounds brought him back out of his shell! :)

  4. Vella says:

    Come back! I missed it….:(

  5. Thiago Spegiorin says:

    Hello, Everybody!

Well, this episode is my first international(for me) podcast that I`ve ever listened and I loved it!
I do listen to podcast a lot(Brazilians podcasts) and I just thought: “Why not look for new oceans to explore?!”.
Gotta say, the structure of the podcast confused me….mostly because I`m used to another kind of structure, but I think the language thing holds me back a little.

That`s it! Just came here to say that I loved your show, and the Todd Glass too(did not listened to the others yet)….

    Congrats from Brazil 😉

  6. Jason says:

    I had a dream I saw Marc Maron’s girlfriend’s butt. I win.

  7. Tanya says:

Listened to this podcast yesterday. I had a dream last night that I was talking to Simon Pegg, he was looking sort scruffy though, maybe he was in costume for a movie part or something. I mentioned to him that he was going to be meeting up with Chris soon in England. He said, “Oh yeah, that should be great!”. That’s all I remember….just thought is was interesting and funny.

Hope to see you in Iowa City.

  8. duncan7 says:

Speaking of iTunes issues, the next time you take a live question from a fruit store worker, can somebody ask WTF is up with podcast db corruption on the iPhone? My (5.0.1) 3GS is currently showing the nerdist laser symbol for three additional podcast streams (e.g., NPR Planet Money), my Nerdist podcasts are out of order in the list and several appear to be 2 seconds long. I don’t think this is a Nerdist-only issue, though it may be worse for your ‘casts because I d/l them from the phone when they become available and I let iTunes grab most of my other feeds as part of regular syncs. This has been a problem on my iPhones for years and it appears several times in the apple forums (never with a resolution that I can find, though.) Any other Nerdist listeners see it? (Please, just save it, Android fanboys.) Or is this just putting other podcasters on notice about the ruthless expansion plans of the Nerdist empire?

Thanks, I’ll hang up and take my answer at the Atlanta show.

  9. Ryan A says:

Please disregard/remove my last comment, head-slaps have been given. [dunce-cap]

  10. Ryan A says:

Am I an idiot, or is this one not showing up on iTunes for everyone else?

  11. Matt Mira says:

    @Ben

    Yes. Seriously.

  12. Ben says:

I’m having a hard time finding the Nerdist podcast this week. I did find and listen to a Matt Mira podcast that was incorrectly labeled “Iron Horse” and now that my ears have stopped bleeding I’d like to listen to the rest of the guys…

Seriously, was Matt on and/or off of a drug during this taping?

  13. Zeke says:

Chuck Klosterman! Yes! If you could get him on the show that would be amazing. He’s the most insightful pop culture theorist of the 21st century. You want to talk to someone about nerd culture it’s him. I’d love to see what he has to say about the sudden previlance of nerd pride and the exponential growth of your company. He’s so smart/nerdy he made football, baseball and basketball sound ridiculously interesting and intelligent. He’s hillarous, and I’m sure you guys would get along really well. (Plus, the four of you together would form some sort of influence-singularity in my life, the nerdgasmic mass of which could form a fixed point in my timeline.)

  14. Chris says:

A ‘Cape Cod’ is a vodka, cranberry & lime; not a Vodka/Cran; not unlike a ‘Cuba Libre’ is a rum, coke & lime; not a Rum & Coke.

  15. Matt Lane says:

YES MATT MIRA!!! Loving the Anna’s Taqueria reference. I’ve been eating there for years and could never get sick of that place. Glad you know whats up!

  16. RK says:

When did Jonah turn a corner from making fun of Matt to acting like they actually hate each other? The teasing is funny, but this is just sad :(

  17. DanD says:

After many episodes of it being mentioned I have finally submitted and watched the “Blink” episode of Dr. Who. Congratulations! I will watch all that is available online. Thanks for adding another show that I must watch to my very long list. Also thanks for the Sherlock recommendation, another great show.

  18. Burton says:

Chris, if Bobby Brown wants to write extremely literal movie theme songs, it’s his prerogative. He can do what he wants to do. Why, oh why, tell me why can’t he live his life? (etc.)

  19. QuasarSniffer says:

    HAHA YES! REFERENCES!

Anyway, I agree. Anyone who’s seen “The Paradise Syndrome” (that episode where Kirk becomes both an Indian and retarded) or, for that matter, any episode of ‘Enterprise’ can attest to the varying quality of ‘Star Trek.’ But the same can be said for almost all of science fiction, especially TV sci-fi, as you pointed out with your example of the ‘Doctor Who’ pilot.

I just feel that Star Trek has had such a momentous impact on the genre, nerdom, and culture in general that dismissing it does a disservice to anyone who is attempting to get into science fiction or nerd culture. Sure, this is partially a result of the countless hours of Trek-inspired joy I experienced in a girlfriend-less childhood/adolescence, BUT HEY IT’S ALL GOOD I’M NOT BITTER OR ANYTHING. That last part was a lie.

Would I take TNG over the original series? Yes. Still, do I love Spock on inappropriate levels for a heterosexual male? Emphatically yes. I love Trek, I love Star Wars, and I love Doctor Who, and while we’re discussing things I find pretty great, the Nerdist podcasts pleasure my earholes several times a week, so thank you for that.

  20. Quasar: A true nerd knows that some Treks are great, and others are not, IMHO! A true nerd also knows that your last line is a reference to Sir John Gielgud’s Hobson in 1981’s “Arthur”. :)

  21. QuasarSniffer says:

So, in what Universe does a podcast called with the word “Nerd” as part of its title spend so much time crapping on the glory that is Star Trek? A BREAK: You should give me one.

Also, as a Pantera fan, I guffawed loudly and with great pleasure at the joke made at his murder.

I look forward to the next Nerdist TV special with great eagerness.

  22. Patrick says:

Had a blast at the show. Would have travelled from Boston for the standup alone, the hostful podcast was the icing on the cake (or head on the hefeweizen #cakeofbeers).

  23. Matt Mitchell (Marty McFly) says:

What a fantastic night of wonder and laughs. Thank you for coming. The Nerdist crew brought amazing comedian and made all my friends jealous :p

  24. Emily says:

Wonderful show guys! Thanks for coming out to MA. We drove in from the northern Berkshires (Matt will know where that is :), and it was well worth it! I hope you are back out east soon!

  25. Rob P says:

    PANETRA!!! RIP Dime .

Love the podcast :) looking forward for the nerdist tv show after doctor who .

  26. Kati says:

I second that request for Daniel Clowes. I love his artwork so bad.

    ^__^

  27. JE Smith says:

In fact, I’d venture to say that Russell T. Davies-era DOCTOR WHO is going to look far more dated and antiquated in 10 years that TOS does even now.

  28. JE Smith says:

BATMAN (1966) is campy. STAR TREK OS is not campy. It’s just of its time.

  29. Ali says:

Now that I’ve finished listening to the podcast, great show, guys! I would watch Matt host Bargain Hunt. Someone make that happen, please.

Also, can we expect full-length podcasts with Tennant and Pegg while you’re in London? I’ll be happy with whatever we get, but podcasts would be awesome.

  30. Ali says:

    Best. Guest list. Ever.

Didn’t think I could be more excited for the TV special, but I am.

  31. -Di. says:

I drove from RI. Yes it was a two hour drive but so worth it! Much fun was had. :-)

    <3

p.s. I was near the woman whose friend claimed she was 42. She was really 24.

  32. Livius says:

Just made it to the guest list.
Listened to it 3 times to make sure i heard it right.
    Awesome

  33. You guys were amazing!
Thanks so much for coming out to North Hampton.
My buddy and I drove from Boston to see yous.
When we went through the meet n greet line at the end of the show I handed you guys CDs, I was a bit flustered and forgot to mention that it’s my band that I play guitar in.
I also meant to ask Matt if he owns any Gretsch guitars.
Also, FUCK YEAH TENNANT FINALLY! Such great news about the TV special!
Thanks again for a stellar night!

    PS
    Come to Boston next time!

  34. Livius says:

    Listening already.
    I love it.
Playbills in the attic. So funny.

  35. Roger Clendening II says:

Totally childish, but I had to try for …

    FIRSTIES!

    (Whew!)

  36. Dave says:

Thank you again for making the trip! The show was fantastic!
