I know this is usually a “so what” for most traveling artists but have distinct memories seeing you, Big Daddy Graham and Bob Nelson at the University of Delaware in 1983 or 1984. Since where I lived previously had no real standup comedy (Montana), seeing this show started my love of live standup comedy.

  2. Greg says:

    Hey guys,
Love this episode and Todd! But you mentioned Rory Schofield (sp?) as a great comedian, as such I’d like to hear/see/know about him/it. Would someone be so kind as to point me in any direction towards Rory enlightenment?

    Thanks,
    Greg

  3. Matt says:

Hey guys, love the podcast. I just listened to this podcast on my way on to a vacation but I have to say, while you guys are funny as hell and I enjoy the shows your timliness sucks. I enjoyed the Todd Glass episode, I would have liked to see him live. Lucky for me I live in Toronto… unlucky for me you aired this almost two weeks after his show. So pretty much sucks to be me.

I know you guys are super busy with your shows, your BBC shows, your open mics so you like to stockpile episodes. Cool, I understand BUT would it be possible to do a “Friends of Nerdist” or even a “Nerdist Industries related event” page where we could see upcoming shows? I would have gone to the Comedy Bar, I would have seen this show, but because you guys sat on it I didn’t know about it until weeks too late.

Any how keep up the good work guys and I hope next time you have some one on coming through Toronto I hear about it BEFORE they come through town.

  4. Jason says:

Todd dropped the date of the first podcast on Comedy Bang Bang!!! August 10th, y’all!!! When I listen to Todd I have a GOOD time!!! Subaruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

  5. Jason says:

    Todd Glass Show wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen?

  6. jason Klamm says:

Chris, you Strike a chord with me each week, but this time you really hit home. I’m seeing in the comments that I’m not the only one. I still collect that stuff – specifically trying to find books of memories, etc, and I’m the same way – I feel like I’m the curator of a museum of the underappreciated, sometimes. That’s what I tell myself, anyhow.

Years ago I actually got an envelope with a mans entire WWII navy career in it. I could never give that up, so I totally relate to your story.

    Thanks for the awesome show.

    – Jason

  7. David says:

Chris: I used to work at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, and they have found photograph collections. Maybe you can donate your album to them. Their site is http://www.PEM.org. You been there before, Matt?

    @OhHaiDavid

  8. Sylvia says:

“So, Todd, how do you really feel? :-)”
…is what might have been going through my head during this show.

I’d rather listen to Todd rant about things than Adam Corolla. Also, Todd’s lust for organization might have made me fall in love. Just a smidge. Enough so that it doesn’t clutter up the rest of the love in the closet.

  9. Charles says:

Hello data traveler, welcome to the internet where we equate ‘2 weeks’ to ‘never’. Please adjust you reality accordingly.

  10. Scully says:

Chris’s story about the photo album made me think of this.
    http://www.radiolab.org/2007/sep/10/

The story of a guy who found 60 letters from the turn of the century by the side… it’s kind of a wonderful.

You won’t feel guilty about you photo album anymore

  11. Eric says:

    Hey Chris, Jonah, and Matt!

I was thrilled to listen to the Todd Glass episode. I’ve been a fan of Mr. Glass for years, particularly his thoughts on the best way to present a space for comedy. Whenever he would talk about the subject back on Comedy and Everything Else, I would feel such a sense of “That makes so much SENSE!”

Chris: Although I’m not a comedian, I am certainly a stand-up comedy nerd. And I totally know what you mean about seeing a comedy club/space/stage, and thinking “Oooh, Todd Glass would HATE this!” I’ve heard enough of his rants to have had that embedded in me, too.

As a comedy fan in Portland, Oregon, I was super excited when Helium opened up. But the first few times I went, I was seated near the kitchen door and the noise of the talking, the music on the kitchen’s radio, and the loud crashing of dishes and silverware nearly drowned out the performers on stage. And each of those times, yes yes, I thought “This isn’t how a comedy club should be set up. Todd Glass would HAAAATTTTEEE this!”

Well, check it out: A few months go by, and my friends and I get tickets to see Todd perform at Helium. We’re seated somewhere in the middle of the room. Throughout the host’s time and opener, the din of noises coming from the kitchen permeated the show in a low-key-but-still-totally-present way.

    Then Todd Glass came out.

Five minutes into his act, Todd breaks from his material, glances towards the pots-and-pans clanging, cups his hands over the mike and announces “ATTENTION, PEOPLE IN THE KITCHEN. WE CAN HEAR. EVERY. THING. YOU’RE. DOING.”

    !!!

I can’t even tell you how awesome that moment was to witness!

I like to imagine that after the show, there was a little Todd Glass Smackdown(tm) perpetrated upon the management. Of course he would have done it in an absolutely kind and inoffensive way, but with enough passion and sincerity to make it land firm. That’s just who he is.

Whether or not the TGS(tm) actually happened, I’ll never know. But I can tell you this: I’ve been back to Helium many many times since, and haven’t heard so much as a “clang” coming from the direction of the kitchen door.

I absolutely love all of your interviews with comedians, and the insight on process that you explore. As someone who appreciates good comedy, it’s wonderful to hear how much work goes into making something so good seem like it’s so effortless.

    Cheers!

  12. Mandy W. says:

    Well Done Nerdist!
Looking forward to that second podcast from Comic-Con. And welcome to Nerdist Todd Glass, looking forward to your first podcast! #Big C, Mira-Booey and Jonas

  13. John says:

    Testing.

  14. Magnoliafan says:

I got to see Todd Glass at Bridge Town a couple of years ago. He was truly inspired.

  15. Just Rob says:

They just give out AIDS tests? Do they explain who the people were that took them? “This guy was accountant in Fresno. He was married with 3 kids. He would meet strange men in the bus station mensroom.”

  16. hunter says:

Mr. Hardwick, you should mention Mad Men being available on Netflix during the next podcast you guys record. That would be great for people who haven’t had the chance to watch it and listen to your podcast. Also you should name-drop that you and Phirman did the music for “El Superbeasto”. My mind was blown when I watched it.

  17. Chris Hardwick says:

mark k: yes, the reason is that we made a mistake. the wrong file got uploaded. it’s been fixed!

  18. mark k says:

is there a reason why the nerdist theme isn’t in the begging

  19. Rev says:

Have you thought about inviting Louis CK to the podcast?

  20. Jason W says:

Can I buy those thousand cd’s that have been in storage for seven years? (seriously asking) Thanks

  21. Dano says:

Every once in a while during this podcast I would forget you were talking to TG and not Bruce Willis.

  22. Ivan says:

Like I always say; if you don’t want AIDS on it, put a charitable sock on it.

  23. Bemis says:

I’m with you Jonah on being done with El Polo Loco. Last two times I had it it gave me the shits to where you are physically drained afterwards.

  24. I was just waiting to see if Jonah would correct Todd on his name but nope lol. Now his name is Jonas! He’s a Weezer fan, it should fit him. Another great podcast.

  25. Hishmeh says:

When I looked at the picture for a whole second I thought you guys were with podcasting Mel Gibson.

  26. Julio says:

I think we’ve finally found Jonas a nickname.

  27. Scott S says:

Did Todd call Jonah Jonas several times? Or was he referring to someone else? I got confused.

Comedy talk is cool, just keep the non-comedy guests too, please, now and then.

  28. Chris Hardwick says:

Guys! The shows don’t assemble themselves! I’m in Montreal performing at the comedy festival. When I get a spare minute I’ll put those SDCC shows together and post them!

    Patience, kids…PATIENCE… :)

  29. Johnny says:

Fuck yeah! Love Todd (Dodd?) Glass! Can’t wait for his podcast. I knew it was coming but I didn’t realize it was going to be a Nerdist cast. I’m a bit of a podcast junkie and I have been hoping Todd would get his own podcast since he stopped doing comedy and everything else.

    I’m too excited about this I think…

  30. Joshy B says:

I love Mr. Glass, but I second Jet’s question: will we never hear the 11 pm Comic-Con show?

  31. Adam says:

He did a set at the Laughing Skull Lounge on Wednesday at the open mic and tested some new jokes out. Seriously funny guy. Hey Hardwick when are you gonna do some stuff down south here?

  32. dpat says:

“oh, littering?” just made me look a little silly as i cackled uncontrollably in front of my officemates. thank you for this nice friday afternoon surprise, sirs!

    btw WELCOME BACK TODD GLASS!

  33. Jetouellet says:

Does this mean the second podcast at Comic Con stays at Comic Con?

  34. phantombread says:

Mira-Booey! Mira-Booey! Zach is a penis! May your AIDS be cancerous and your loins fruitful and may the fire in which your progeny die burn bright!

  35. Jen says:

    THE NEW @NERDIST IS HERE!!
    THE NEW @NERDIST IS HERE!
    …….
Things are going to start happening to me, NOW.

  36. Justin says:

Todd Glass is easily one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever heard talk. Great job convincing him to get back into the podcast world!

  37. Zach says:

    FIRSTIES!!!!
