Say what you want about them, videos games as televised sports will be a thing. Just thinking that gives me the chills. I think back to the days where my intense Pokémon battles during recess often resulted in my portable device getting confiscated as I was always told by our educators that video games were a far cry from anything productive. But days where you turn your television on to the USA’s top-viewed sports networks and see videos games are happening more frequently with each passing year. There’s no denying that the momentum for the eSports train is taking it on a direct route to the top of sports entertainment.
But not everyone is exactly sold on eSports, and even the folks who are would rather steer clear of growing spectator event– especially folks like Colin Cowherd. This week on Nerdist: Play, I’ll be stepping into the conversation in defense of eSports, and ponder just how far we are from the imminent eSports invasion into our everyday sports cycle. Do you think eSports are worthy of television broadcast? Or do you think it’s silly, and that someone needs to “lock mom’s basement door”? Let us know your thoughts on eSports in the comments below.
Side note: Make sure you stick around to the very end of the video for a “super natural” cameo of sorts.
Nerdist Gaming is growing and you can find us all over the internet these days! If you’d like to continue the conversation, you can check us out every week on our Twitch channel or every day on our Facebook page! Also, if you’d like to chat about videos games with me directly, I’m only one tweet away @Malik4Play.
