Nerdist News: Top 5 Movies of 2013

Mmm-mmm. Smell that fresh 2014 air. It’s a whole new year, and a whole new start. But there’s still some value in looking to the past: specifically, taking a look at 2013’s Top 5 Movies.

Between Star Wars 7, Batman vs. Superman, and The Age of Ultron, 2013 gave us a lot to look forward to. But it also gifted us with some mighty fine flicks of its own. And Elysium. But you can forget about Elysium.

Without further ado, please enjoy Nerdist News’s Top 5 Movies of 2013. And tell us in the comments below: what was the biggest surprise you had in theaters last year?

  1. The Big D says:

Man of Steel needed to be on this list.

  2. BrashHulk says:

Sooooo…if we’re sticking with genre movies only – which I would surmise since we’re on Nerdist – I only disagree with ‘Pacific Rim’ being in the Top 5. It’s a definite Top 10 pick, but I would place ‘Man of Steel’ at #4 instead. I enjoyed the heck out of ‘Pacific Rim’ and it’s got great popcorn value, but it’s not a movie that I’d pay to see several times in the theater, like I did with ‘Man of Steel’. Oh, and since you so sweetly asked, I’ll round out the Top 10 for everyone!

    6. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
    7. Pacific Rim
    8. Elysium
    9. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
    10. Iron Man 3

And now, due to insistent, impatient clamor, I present the Bottom 5!

    5. 47 Ronin. Be amazed…at how stilted and boring this is.
    4. The Lone Ranger. Downright bad, and downright insulting.
    3. The Host. Please deport Stephenie Meyer before she writes again.
.2. After Earth. So painful to watch. My eyes almost bled.
    1. Ender’s Game. No almost on this one. Exsanguinated eyeballs.

  3. KD says:

    5. The World’s End
    4. The Wolf of Wall Street
    3. Gravity
    2. This is the End
    1. American Hustle

  4. Fartbooty says:

All great movies I’d put Thor 2 at #1 tho how is This Is The End and We’re The Millers not on that list p.s sweet Murray shirt Jessica!

  5. cat jon says:

  6. Spencer says:

Good, no Iron man 3 that was a major disappointment

  7. Allison says:

If you make us wade through a video to see the list then take the time to do the close captioning right. Not everyone is able to do sound all the time and who remembers to come back later to view? I’m pretty sure that in Thor 2 we didn’t need more low key. Otherwise, I’m glad that Pegg pegged the top spot.
