We don’t know about you, Miss Kitty, but our toy collections are about to get so much yummier.
Batman Returns is an often-neglected franchise stepchild when it comes to toys. Though it got a full line when it first came out in 1992, many of the toys were repaints or off-model items that had little do with what was onscreen. We have yet to get a really great, affordable action figure of Batman in movie-accurate Returns armor (Hot Toys just recently announced a high-end version), but last year NECA finally delivered a fully detailed quarter-scale Danny DeVito Penguin, and this year, they just revealed his (sometime) partner in crime – a Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman that features the actress’ authentic likeness (the original movie line had a toy of Selina, but it was small and the face sculpt was generic).
Catwoman is welcome not only because she’s the greatest live-action Catwoman to hit the big screen so far (sorry Lee, Anne, and Halle, but she is), but because, along with the 18″ Arkham Harley Quinn figure, she’s a sign that NECA is finally putting some faith in large-scale female figures; prior to these two, the only one they’d done was Uma Thurman from Kill Bill. Might they finally relent on not doing Black Widow?
Yes, that’s an extra head with rooted hair. And a smiley-faced taser accessory.
Paraphrasing Dr. Chase Meridian, this toy has gotten our attention with skintight vinyl and a whip. And that beats a helluva cup of coffee any day.
Who does NECA need to make next from the Bat-movie universe (and before you answer, you should know they’ve nixed a Tom Hardy Bane)? I have my thoughts, but it’s time now to hear yours.
