My Friggin Book!!!

I just got this in the mail today. S’weird! This was nothing but a really large Word .doc for so long that having it in the physical world freaks me out a bit (in a good way).

November 1st is soon! I hope you like it! Or at least don’t think me douchey and weird because of what I wrote. But I can’t really control what you think, so there’s that! I just feel like there are other like-minded nerd types who are looking for the same answers I was. And while I haven’t figured out all of them, I feel like I managed to tick off quite a few. All the things that make us nerds–focus, internal monologuing, obsessiveness–I think are the raw materials for achieving stuff. I may be crazy, but I do seem to get a lot of shit done.

Okay, enough insecure disclaimers! We have a temp book page up at NerdistWay.com for pre-orders at the moment. Hoo-RAH!!!

PS – YES! There will be an audio version as well!

I’m at work right now listening to the Audio version of your book. I recently sent a Quemment and said that I might buy the actual book as well (it’s official I am for the Charactercises… but that’s not why I’m commenting right now. I’m commenting because I want to know, “WTF is wrong with you?!” I am in tears on the Marty McFly/Doc section. The voice over has me in a ball laughing… at work. It’s hard to continue typing! But besides the funny sections/comedic tones you have in the book/audiobook this is a really good piece of work and you should be proud of yourself. I recommend the audiobook to people too, you can hear the sincerity in your voice, that’s cool to me. You care about your people… this isn’t just about sales.

  2. CircusMonkey says:

Just got the book yesterday and starting reading today. I cant wait to finish. Already feeling inspired and wanting to focus like never before.

  3. Chuck W. says:

Big C, can I just say it is cool to see how you are inspiring others to write and JUST DO stuff they have always wanted to do.

  4. Chuck W. says:

I pre-ordered it from the iBooks store as soon as it was available good sir.

  5. JLH says:

    ….conversation with self…
“Hey, Chris Hardwick wrote a book.”
    “Yeah, so…”
“Why don’t you write a book.”
    “Why?”
“Because you have always wanted to, and if that Chris guy can do it you can…. I mean, he is kind of a spaz.”
“hmmm….what if I suck at writing.”
“Who gives a shit. You probably do suck at writing.. You sucked at walking when you were little… you got better.”
“Yeah, OK, I guess so, you won’t laugh will you?”
    “….probably not. No promises.”
So I started on Sunday. I vomited out 10 pages in about four hours, most of it gibberish, but I started, and it felt good. Now all I think about is writing this book, and it makes me happy.
    Thanks Chris
PS You are not really a spaz….
(ok, maybe you are a little — in a good, inspirational sort of way)

  34. Lisa says:

Oooh! Your musings finally in physical form. That’s great! I pre-ordered it back when pre-ordering was first possible (for your book) and around the time I saw you at the Wilbur Theatre. I’m so excited, and weirdly proud of you! Maybe it is because I’m 3 years older than you – I loves ya, kid. It’s gonna be a big hit, you’re gonna be a STAH!

  35. kleer001 says:

You could do some rapid prototyping over at shapeways.com (or similar service). Then’d you get that “Oh god, it was just a file, but now it’s an object” feeling far more often.
    Also, whaaaaaaaaa!!!! That’s great!

  36. Liz H (from Canada) says:

Of course it’ll be out Nov 1st…because my thesis will be long done by then! Where were you in January?!?

But seriously, I’m really looking forward to this. The only question is: book, or audiobook? Tough choice. :-)

Will you talk about how to get over the Mind Numbing fear of failure?

  38. Justin says:

Big C! Your book! Congrats! Must be so exiting, and if it’s even half as good as the advice you give on the podcast I’m sure it will really help. Can’t wait to read it.

  46. Priscilla says:

Will it be available in ebook format?

  47. Livius says:

I went to my school bookstore (Barnes & Noble affiliate) and asked for a copy last week. They said it wasn’t out yet, boy did I feel dumb after checking the shelves daily for a week. Looking forward to Nov. 1st.
