Music Geek Track of the Week: Nick Waterhouse’s ‘Dead Room’

Nick Waterhouse’s “Dead Room” is the type of retro, soul-inflected ballroom jam that makes you understand why people used to buy dancing shoes. This week, the L.A.-based crooner released his second LP, Holly (named after the pretty woman on the album cover? A reference to his Buddy Holly-esque glasses?), and it is full of vintage-sounding R&B tunes that are both super sexy and wedding-reception-friendly. The best part of “Dead Room” is the surprise saxophone solo toward the back of the track that is awesomely frenetic — like you would have to stop doing the twist, or whatever the correct dance for this song is, and have a proper full-body freakout.
