Most excuses for being late to school just won’t fly, but if you have a signed alibi from Bruce Springsteen, then your teachers will likely be a bit more understanding. That’s exactly what happened for one young fan, and there’s no word on whether he actually was tardy, but if he was, we imagine his teachers were too curious and excited to be that upset.
In other news, Adele tried twerking, Radiohead’s upcoming album isn’t done yet but it’s supposedly shaping up to be special, Rihanna’s fans sure can sing, Animal Collective is hitting the road, and Drake and Rihanna did a nice thing for a sick fan. It was a big weekend, so let’s get into it.
Bruce Springsteen signed Xabi’s tardy note for school tomorrow. He is as genuine and gracious as you think he is! pic.twitter.com/mmTlxjFveG

The Boss’s heartland rock is essential listening for all ages, so what’s a 9-year-old to do when the Springsteen concert he’s at runs long? Fourth-grader Xabi Glovsky, with his father Scott, brought a sign to the show that read, “Bruce, I will be late to school tomorrow. Please sign my note.” Springsteen complied: He invited the two back stage, took some photos, and wrote a note that said, “Dear Ms. Jackson, Xabi has been out very late rocking & rolling. Please excuse him if he is tardy.” What a boss. [Billboard]
Adele isn’t known for her club-ready, twerk-tastic bangers, but that won’t stop her from twerking. According to her, her inability is the preventative factor. At a recent show, Adele took a stab at twerking, and ever the jokester, she made light of how bad she is at it. Her form wasn’t ideal, since she essentially had to move her whole body to make it sort of work, then she said “My bum could break my back it’s so enormous” and gave up. We’ll never stop loving you, Adele. [BuzzFeed]
Radiohead previously announced a new tour, but that doesn’t mean the album is done just yet. Speaking to DIY, Radiohead collaborator Stanley Donwood said the album is “not yet” done, but he did provide encouraging news, calling the album in its current state “a work of art.” If it sounds that good incomplete, we’ll wait with bated breath for it to actually be finished. Every now and then, a performer will get a fan involved and pass the mic as a fun way to engage the crowd (and perhaps take a slight break). But when Rihanna gave a fan a chance to sing a few lyrics from “FourFiveSeconds,” the fan had a great voice and absolutely nailed it. The face Rihanna makes in the video above was surely a common expression in the room that night. [MTV] Animal Collective has been a festival fixture for years, but now they’re ready to put on one of their own: the group announced that they will host their own camping festival in California’s Big Sur on September 23 and 24, and yes, they’ll be playing both nights. Aside from that, the band has a ton of tour dates spread throughout the rest of the year and across the globe, so there ought to be plenty of opportunity to see them if California isn’t on your radar. While rumors of a relationship between Drake and Rihanna have been flying around like mad lately (rumors they both deny), one thing they definitely do well together is make others happy. The pair recently visited a young cancer patient named Megan while in Florida, and her
day life was absolutely made. A clearly excited Megan posted an Instagram video of her and Drake that was captioned, “BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! I MET THE LOML 😍💍 He was so sweet & down to earth. Gave me and my family some OVO clothing. BEST DAY EVER. NO LIE. 😍😩😭✊🏼 @champagnepapi LOVE YOU! 💘.” Good on you two for inspiring so many emojis, Drake and Rihanna. [Hypetrak]
That was a glimpse at the weekend in music, so thanks for being here, and we’ll catch you again on Wednesday for the next Music Dispatch!
