Has Adele ever done drugs? We don’t know, but this video is what that must be like. Adele slips into the ultimate flower power mode in her newest music video. Before you get caught in a daze, stick around for a new Lady Gage and Tame Impala collaboration, The Go-Go’s reunion, The Lonely Island’s hilarious new song, Fred Armisen’s newest fake band, and Courtney Barnett’s live set on Saturday Night Live.
Everything is right in the world now that Adele is the queen of the pop world again. After releasing 25, the singer-songwriter is back with a new video for album cut “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).” In the video, she sports a gorgeous floral dress that soon adds to the trippy visuals. Multiple layers of her singing begin to be layered over one another, creating levels of freedom and indecision through artistic lenses. Director Patrick Daughters used a black backdrop to illuminate the emotions. Check it out above and let us know what you think! [Rolling Stone]
At the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, Lady Gaga teased a new studio album was on the way. There’s not much out there pertaining to the details of that release, but thanks to Mark Ronson’s Instagram, we know a little bit more. A shot of Gaga and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala went up Sunday night. The caption? “Illusion.” One word, but it suggests a lot. Is it a song title? Is it suggesting Parker is only there to produce? Is it suggesting he’s not there at all and there’s some bearded Aussie lookalike? The world will never know… until later this year. [Consequence of Sound]
The Billboard Music Awards were packed with plenty of buzz-worthy news (and some for the wrong reasons). In the middle of all of that was undeniably great news: a reunion, in fact. The Go-Go’s reunited with most of the band’s classic lineup: Jane Wiedlin, Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, and Gina Schock. Their farewell tour kicks off their August, but it wasn’t until last night’s awards show that the world got to see them back in action. They performed their ever-popular hit “We Got the Beat” and sounded pretty on point given it’s over 35 years old now. Check it out in full here. [Rolling Stone]
The Lonely Island have a mockumentary-style film coming out next month called Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. It spoofs on Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never and Katy Perry’s Part of Me. As such, Andy Samberg plays Conner4real, a pop star reuniting with his former boy band. To promote the film, the trio shared “Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song),” a new track from the movie. We won’t spoil anything, but it’s as risque and political as it sounds. [Consequence of Sound]
If there’s one thing Fred Armisen loves more than cracking jokes, it’s making fake bands. The ex-Saturday Night Live member writes fake songs for Portlandia, he writes fake songs for The Blue Jean Committee, he writes fake songs for The Fingerlings, and now he’s writing fake song for his new band: The Harkin Brothers. The Southern rock act sees Carrie Brownstein join in as well as Maya Rudolph and Larry David. It goes without saying that they sound fabulous. Why wouldn’t they? [Consequence of Sound]
Courtney Barnett went from 0 to 100 in the public eye over the course of two years. For some, her rocket to fame happened even faster than that. It’s well deserved. The Australian rocker pairs wit with hooks, coming up with an entirely original style that draws from punk and prose as much as it does the boredom of someone forced to burn their creativity on high. Barnett has reached the top of the mountain in terms of music aka performed on Saturday Night Live this past weekend as the musical guest for the season finale. She performed “Pedestrian At Best” and “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party,” two catchy songs with even more memorable titles. Check them out here. [Consequence of Sound]
