Movie Morsels: Watch the TOY STORY Gang Form a Giant Robot and Battle Kaiju!

It may be Monday, but feel free to think of today’s Movie Morsels as a Friday Night Special with all the trimmings. Because we’ve got such goodness as a brand-spanking-new Toy Story adventure in the form of an awesome Japanese toy commercial. Plus, the latest TV spots for Suicide Squad, some exciting news regarding Doctor Strange, another big casting update on the Ocean’s 11 remake, and more!

Toy Story

Yes, you read today’s headline correctly. The Toy Story gang is indeed taking their team spirit to the next level — by forming a giant robot to battle a kaiju version of Trixie! It’s part of a Japanese commercial advertising Bandai’s new “Toy Story Combination Woody Robo Sheriff Star” figure, and it’s just as awesome as it sounds. Check it out below. And check out a gallery of photos of Bandai’s new Toy Story toy here.

Doctor Strange

While it’s too soon to say if Benedict Cumberbatch himself is goming to this year’s Comic-Con International, we now have a definite statement from Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson that the feature film debut of Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme will be present at the event in San Diego next month…

Always one to jump into any hot topic social media conversation, Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn is indicating that he too will be present at the event,  hopefully with the eagerly awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Suicide Squad

In other superhero (or supervillain) news, two new TV spots for Suicide Squad have landed online. After the lukewarm response to its recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros./DC isn doubling down on fan appeal with the next entry in its burgeoning shared-universe mega-film franchise. These spots have me more eager than ever to see this movie…

Ocean’s 11

Walk of Shame

Yet another A-lister has joined the new Ocean’s 11. Elizabeth Banks will join forces with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, and Helena Bonham Carter in the gender-swapped remake. No word yet on who Banks will play (Blanchett has the Brad Pitt role, with Bullock presumably taking George Clooney’s part as the titular team’s leader). But if the production is taking requests, well, I’d like to nominate Melissa McCarthy and Margot Robbie for it next recruits.

Chaos Walking

Chaos Walking

Doug Liman made a massive critical comeback with his sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow. Now the director has an opportunity to follow it up with another genre winner. Liman will direct Chaos Walking, based on the acclaimed bestselling young adult dystopian thrillers by English novelist Patrick Ness.

Will this be another Hunger Games? … Or another Divergent Series? Well, let’s just say the last movie with which Liman launched a multi-film franchise was a little thing called… What was it now? Oh, yes: The Bourne Identity. But making the project even more interesting is the fact that Charlie Kaufman wrote the script, promising one strange new adventure series.
