If you don’t like superhero movies, then today’s Movie Morsels is the wrong place for you! For the rest of you — we’ve got news on Wonder Woman‘s writer, Fox’s Deadpool and Fantastic Four, the sequel to Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, and Disney’s new Robin Hood project. (And, as the inspiration for Green Arrow, you can be damn sure Robin Hood was one of the very first superheroes.) Enjoy!
Director Michelle MacLaren’s Wonder Woman movie may soon have a screenwriter, arriving straight from Neverland. “Jason Fuchs, the writer behind Warner Bros’ upcoming Pan movie, is on his way to Paradise Island via invisible jet. The scribe is in negotiations to write the screenplay for Wonder Woman, one of the most important installments of Warners’ cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters and one of the most iconic characters in comic book history.”
Ryan Reynolds’ long-in-development Deadpool movie is now guaranteed. Fox is almost finished closing its deal with the former Green Lantern. Find out all about the Merc With a Mouth’s big movie right here.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
This summer’s Megan Fox-starring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proved polarizing to fans, with some dismissing its redesign of the Heroes in a Half Shell, and other happy just to see them back on the big screen. But the film performed well enough for Paramount to greenlight a sequel, which has just acquired a director. “Earth to Echo director David Green is in talks to direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, sources confirm. Jonathan Liebesman directed this summer’s Turtles pic, which grossed $478 million worldwide, but Paramount wanted to take a new approach and decided to open the director search. Liebsman would [have] been unable to direct on such short notice anyway [as] he is currently directing the 10 part event series Shannara.”
“Michael Bay is producing along with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are penning the script. Plot details are unknown at this time, and neither is it known who will return from the original pic, though Megan Fox and Will Arnett are expected to reprise their roles.”
After bringing the outlaw archer to the world of animation in its 1973 Robin Hood (pictured above), Disney may soon have a live-action adaptation on its hands. “Back in October, word broke that Sony Pictures is planning Hood, a ‘shared universe’ take on the legendary folklore hero… Now it seems that Disney is gearing up for their own visit to Sherwood Forest as Deadline reports that the studio has acquired an original spec script from newcomer screenwriter Brandon Barker. Titled Nottingham & Hood, Barker’s take is likened to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean and the outlet suggests that early plans are to similarly spin the feature into a multi-film franchise.”
Finally today — Miles Teller updates us on Fantastic Four. While the new Mr. Fantastic feels your pain about the reboot’s take on Victor von Doom, he’s confident fans will be pleased.
