Good morning, Morselers! The Star Wars news pipeline continues with the latest on this summer’s Star Wars Celebration in today’s Movie Morsels. (It looks like we won’t have too long to wait before we get our first batch of major intel on the Han Solo movie.) Plus, the latest from Star Trek Beyond, Ghostbusters, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and more!
Star Wars: Episode VIII
In addition to the already announced talent from the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, next month’s Star Wars Celebration in London (held at the ExCeL London Exhibition Centre) will feature a “Future Filmmakers” panel on the convention’s Celebration Stage on Sunday, July 17. Hosted by Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the panel will include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-producer Kiri Hart, Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson, and directors of the “Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film,” Chris Miller and Phil Lord (perhaps best known for their work on The Lego Movie). Director Gareth Edwards appeared at last year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim with a first look at Rogue One, so it’s a pretty safe bet that this year’s event will offer our very first glimpses of Episode VIII and the new Han Solo movie.
Star Trek Beyond
Actress Sofia Boutella’s alien Jaylah takes the spotlight in the latest poster from Star Trek Beyond, featuring an image pulled from the scene in the trailer in which she sprawls across Kirk’s chair. Fun fact: When I spoke with director Justin Lin about the movie last month he told me this scene was entirely improvised… after Boutella decided to plop down in the prop chair on set, and declared that it was henceforth her chair.
The gadgets of the Ghostbusters reboot are examined in a new behind-the-scenes video on the July 15 release. Featuring the film’s cast and director Paul Feig, it’s our best look yet at the film’s proton packs, traps, and ingenious new ghostbusting devices…
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle sees the filmmaker reunited with one of his most frequent collaborators, former British footballer Vinnie Jones. The two paired on Jones’ first film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, as well as the follow-up Snatch, both of which Vaughn produced. This marks the first time Jones will be directed by Vaughn, and he’s dressed quite dapper for the occasion, in a set photo the actor has shared on Twitter…

Finally today… We have the first full trailer for Clint Eastwood’s Sully, starring Tom Hanks in the titular role of the airline pilot who famously saved everyone on board US Airways Flight 1549 when he steered his malfunctioning plane into the Hudson River. There’s so much ugliness in the news these days, that I’m all in favor of more such screen stories of real-life heroism. Sully opens on September 8…
