Movie Morsels: Jon Hamm Could Turn Superspy in Live-Action ARCHER

Could any dream casting be as perfect as that of Jon Hamm as the hilariously inept secret agent Sterling Archer in an Archer movie? In today’s Movie Morsels, we learn that the dream could one day become a reality. Plus, the latest images from Suicide Squad, a Conjuring 2 clip, deleted scenes from Zootopia, and more!

Since FX’s Archer is inspired by spy-fi movies, it’s understandable that fans of the animated comedy show have been clamoring for years for a feature film adaptation. (Because of the Great Circle of Life.) Now, in the wake of Archer‘s seventh season finale, executive producers Matt Thompson and Casey Willis have renewed hope for a movie in a big way. Speaking with The Daily Beast, Thompson says, “It’s all up to whatever [creator] Adam [Reed] wants to do, but he and I have definitely talked about it. I think we talk about it once every two years. We vacillate between if you do it, why are you doing the TV show? And should it be live-action, or should it be cartoon? The talk is there, we just still haven’t decided. I don’t think there will be a movie before the last episode of Archer airs on TV. I don’t think we’ll make a movie before the series finishes.”

What’s most exciting, however, are Thompson’s remarks on who the producers would like to see play the series’ lead role, superspy Sterling Archer…

“It’s Jon Hamm. If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm. Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him? I don’t know. Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live-action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’ But if it is live-action—and if it is not Jon Benjamin it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”

Please God, make this happen. And give us a sign it will happen. Because until then I will spend all my days praying that it does happen.

Blade Runner 2

Mackenzie Davis

Actress Mackenzie Davis (pictured above in AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire) must have made quite an impression on director Ridley Scott when she worked with him in The Martian, because she’s now joining the long-talked-about, Scott-produced sequel to his 1982 classic Blade Runner. Considering that Davis’ role in The Martian was whitewashed (her character, Mindy Park, is Asian in the novel on which the movie is based), her casting in Blade Runner 2 is a bold move, since it’s sure to remind many of the sole major blunder in Scott’s otherwise fine Oscar-nominated epic.

The Conjuring 2

If you can’t wait for this Friday’s release of The Conjuring 2, we have a little something to tide you over: a brand new clip from the horror sequel. Director James Wan’s second film, chronicling the adventures of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, once again stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga…

[Coming Soon]

Finally today, we have a whopping three videos of deleted scenes from Disney’s latest animated blockbuster Zootopia. While two of these are just storyboard animatics, and the third is unfinished animation, the voices of the film’s all-star cast can be heard. These scenes and lots more extras can be found on the Zootopia Blu-ray, which was released just yesterday.
