Movie Morsels: Jeff Goldblum Adorably Reads an INDEPENDENCE DAY Children’s Book

Between The Shallows and Swiss Army Man, it’s a great weekend for offbeat, modestly budgeted films. But hey, if your tastes run more towards blockbusters, there’s always Independence Day: Resurgence, starring the always watchable Jeff Goldbum (who has a hilarious new viral video in today’s Movie Morsels). Plus, we’ve got the latest on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Inferno, and more!

Independence Day: Resurgence

Independence Day 2

While Independence Day: Resurgence is drawing mixed reviews from critics (with our own Luke Y. Thompson leaning positive), there’s no denying the charm of returning Independence Day star Jeff Goldblum. The good folks at Mashable have taken full advantage of that charm, nabbing Goldblum for a new video in which he reads a kids’ storybook adaptation of the original film. Y’know, to help younglings get caught up! Unfortunately, due to Mashable’s technical restrictions, we can’t embed the video for you to watch on this page, so go watch it now right here!

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man Civil War Shield

Another day, another piece of Spider-Man: Homecoming casting news… The latest actor to sign on for the wall crawler’s first-ever Marvel Studios-produced film is Fargo star Bokeem Woodbine. As with almost all of the film’s other casting announcements, there’s no word yet on who Woodbine will play. But hey, at least we know Michael Keaton and Logan Marshall-Green will play villains. Rounding out the Jon Watts-helmed epic’s cast is Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Donald Glover, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Hannibal Burress, Martin Starr, Michael Mando, and Abraham Attah. Whew!

Inferno

The third film in the series that began with The Da Vinci Code (based on the Dan Brown bestseller) has itself a new trailer today, featuring our generation’s Jimmy Stewart, Tom Hanks, as famed symbology professor Robert Langdon. This time around, Langdon’s suffering from amnesia and targeted by a mysterious group of baddies, with only Felicity Jones to help him! Inferno, helmed like its predecessors by Ron Howard, co-stars Omar Sy, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Ben Foster, and Irrfan Khan. It lands in theaters on October 28.

Mechanic: Resurrection

Finally today, one last trailer before you head out for weekend hijinks, Morselers. Jason Statham is back for another go at the Mechanic series. Joined this time by Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones, and Michelle Yeoh, Mechanic: Resurrection finds Statham’s Arthur Bishop tasked with carrying out three assassinations in order to save the woman he loves. Awww, that’s so sweet…
