Ease back on those lightsabers, folks. Lucasfilm has heard your cries of outrage, and in today’s Movie Morsels J.J. Abrams addresses the missing Jedi in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Plus, the first photos from Assassin’s Creed and Dirty Grandpa, a new TV spot for the The Good Dinosaur, and more!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars far and wide have been asking why Luke Skywalker (a.k.a. Mark Hamill) isn’t present in the poster for The Force Awakens. So director J.J. Abrams decided to address the controversy and assure all of us that this is no mere oversight. In a new AP interview, Mr. Mystery Box remarked, “These are good questions to be asking, I can’t wait for you to find out the reason… It’s no accident.”
Providing an update on the film’s post-production, Abrams said, “The visual effects process goes on for so long, my guess is that we’ll probably be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks even though the cut will be done before then. We’re in the editing room, and you know working on the cut, going over visual effects and doing reviews. We still have another scoring session with John Williams, who is a god when it comes to music, and so it’s been an ongoing surreal experience and I just cannot wait for the movie to be out in the world.”
Here’s the video interview with Abrams’ comment on Luke’s absence…
We’ve got our very first photo from the set of Assassin’s Creed today, thanks to star Michael Fassbender’s production company, and it opens up a new mystery for fans of the video game franchise, due to some visible bruises on the back of the actor’s neck. In costume, Fassbender stands alongside a sign saying, “Progress requires sacrifice.” Are the bruises the result of a stunt gone awry? Something related to Fassbender’s character? We’ll have to wait to find out. Directed by Justin Kurzel and co-starring Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons, and Brendan Gleeson, the film is set for release on December 21, 2016.

And here’s our first look at actors Robert De Niro and Zac Efron in the raunchy comedy Dirty Grandpa…
De Niro plays Grandpa Dick, “a foul-mouthed senior heading to a retirement community in Boca Raton. His grandson, Jason (Zac Efron), inherits the task of getting him there — even though his wedding to the boss’s controlling daughter (Julianne Hough) is just days away.”
Out on Jan. 22, the film is directed by Dan Mazur, and co-stars Aubrey Plaza, Jason Mantzoukas, Danny Glover, Adam Pally, and Dermot Mulroney.
The Girl on the Train
It looks like Justin Theroux is stepping in to replace Chris Evans as Emily Blunt’s ex-husband in the adaptation of the bestselling thriller The Girl on the Train. Co-starring Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Leto, Haley Bennett, and Edgar Ramirez, the film is directed by The Help‘s Tate Taylor.
The Ridiculous 6
You don’t have to venture out to a theater to see Adam Sandler’s next movie. The comedy-western The Ridiculous 6, a spoof of The Magnificent Seven, lands on Netflix on December 11th. Directed by Frank Coraci, the film also stars Will Forte, Taylor Lautner, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, Terry Crews, Luke Wilson, Nick Nolte, Rob Schneider, and Jorge Garcia. Here’s the first trailer…
The Good Dinosaur
Lastly today, we’ve got the new TV spot for Pixar’s too-cute-for-words-looking The Good Dinosaur. Directed by Peter Sohn, the film bows on November 25th. Enjoy!
