Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend, because we’ve got a few things in today’s Movie Morsels to get your adrenaline racing. Including a revealing new interview with Gal Gadot about playing Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a video interview with director Joss Whedon in which he confirms Avengers: Age of Ultron will feature characters we’ve not yet seen nor have been announced, a pack of new images of Terminator: Genisys (featuring Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), an awesome clip of The Rock and Jason Statham duking it out in Furious 7, and more!
Avengers: Age of Ultron
In his latest video interview, Joss Whedon officially confirms that Avengers: Age of Ultron will indeed feature characters we’ve not already met — beyond the Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Ultron. Internet speculation is running rampant as to who these mystery characters might be, with Captain Marvel a leading frontrunner.
By the way, have you seen the latest TV spot for Avengers: Age of Ultron? The opening shot alone, of the Quinjet taking off from Avengers Tower, is enough to give me a fanboy heart attack. My body is so ready for this movie. Director Joss Whedon’s sequel — starring (deep breath) Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Hayley Atwell, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård, James Spader, and Samuel L. Jackson — arrives (all together now) May 1st.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Gal Gadot had a few words to say about playing Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to a news outlet in Israel, which Superhero Hype has kindly translated. Here are the highlights, in which she describes what happened when she won the role and confirms the superpowers her Diana will possess…
On landing the role: “I never had to wait so long for a reply. It was a month and a half of torture. It was a crazy roller-coaster. I couldn’t talk about it to anyone. On the day they promised a reply I was flying to NY for another gig. When the plane landed I saw I had a lot of missed calls. I called my agent still sitting in the plane with the belt on. She told me ‘ Congratulations! You got the part.’ During the flight I set next to a really nice man. A scientist from The Weizmann Institute of Science. He talked the entire flight about quantum physics. Now, imagine me, sitting on the plane, looking for a little piece of privacy, burying my head between my legs and starting to scream ‘Oh my god!’ again and again, because I just can’t believe it. Then I hang up the phone and he looks at me like ‘what just happened?’ and asks if everything is alright. I tell him ‘ I can’t really say anything but you will probably read about it tomorrow in the paper.'”
On playing an iconic character: “Playing Wonder Women is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I can’t describe to you how much I wanted to play this character without even knowing I wanted to play her. I met a lot of people from the industry in LA for meetings. They always asked me ‘what’s your dream role?’, and I never could define it. I always answered that I wanted to play a women that is strong and will be a source for women empowerment. I don’t want to play a damsel in distress that needs to be saved. I don’t like it when women in the movies are shown as the victims. I always thought that if I could send out a massage I want to show the strong side of a woman and how she can handle tough situations.”
On Wonder Woman’s abilities: “I get to play the strongest most empowering woman ever — Wonder Woman. I’m so grateful and I thank god every day. I want to devour it and enjoy every bite… She has unbelievable endurance. She is exceptionally strong. She can jump really high and practically fly. She know tons of martial arts styles. She is a strong and serious woman.”
Gadot’s Wonder Woman debuts in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016. Her solo film arrives on June 23, 2017.
If you’re like me, the one thing you’re most looking forward to seeing in director James Wan’s Furious 7 is The Rock and Jason Statham beating the ever-loving shit out of each other. Well, it appears Universal knows what we want, because the studio has released a new clip from the scene leading into the fight, as well as its first few seconds. Hopefully Furious 7 will give us a lot more of this when it opens on April 3rd.
New stills from the already polarizing Terminator: Genisys have debuted via Empire Magzine, spotlighting stars Emilia Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and J.K. Simmons — as well as an old-school T-800 exoskeleton. Director Alan Taylor’s film, co-starring Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and Matt Smith, bows on July 1st.
Man at Arms
Looks like Guy Ritchie isn’t the only name in town when it comes to directing King Arthur movies. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles helmer Jonathan Liebesman has just signed on for the Thunder Road Pictures’ Man at Arms, scripted by Jeremy Lott. The film “follows Sir Lancelot as an older man who is bent on making amends after his love for Guinevere (and hers for him) ended up destroying Arthur’s Camelot.”
