Martin’s non-Game of Thrones work is heading to theaters in In the Lost Lands; Joe Dante is back in the horror-comedy business with Burying the Ex; and more!
Disney has released the first images from Frozen Fever, the seven-minute Frozen sequel short directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck that will be attached to the studio’s live-action Cinderella when it bows on March 13th. According to Disney, “In Frozen Fever, it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk…”
Universal has updated its Jurassic World website to offer fans a “live” Park Cam, showing the various environments throughout the eponymous island attraction. There’s no word on how often this footage will be replenished, but eager audiences will want to scour it for new info and clues to this summer’s much-anticipated sequel.
In the Lost Lands
If you thought all there was to George R.R. Martin was Game of Thrones, think again. The bestselling author has also written scores of award-winning short stories, three of which writer-director Constantin Werner intends to bring to the big screen in In the Lost Lands, a German-Canadian co-production that will mark the first time Martin’s work has been adapted into a feature film. Milla Jovovich is in talks to star alongside Justin Chatwin (Shameless). According to Variety, “In one thread, the desperate queen of a city built into a towering mountain hires a sorceress — played by Jovovich — to travel into the ghostly wasteland called the Lost Lands to obtain the gift of shape-shifting into a werewolf. Another thread involves a warrior girl who must fight a dragon that serves as the gatekeeper of seven worlds to reunite with her lost lover. The futuristic tale ‘Bitterblooms’ centers on a young barbarian girl who is spellbound by a lonely witch in a spacecraft.”
Burying the Ex
Like Joe Dante? You’re in luck — Image Entertainment has just picked up the distribution rights to the Gremlins director’s next project: Burying the Ex, due out on VOD and in theaters this summer. The latest entry in the zom-com film genre, which Dante previously explored in his Masters of Horror episode “Homecoming”, the movie stars The Twilight Saga‘s Ashley Greene as an “overbearing” young woman who’s killed and comes back as a zombie, much to the chagrin of her boyfriend (Anton Yelchin). True Detective‘s Alexandra Daddario co-stars as the nice new woman in his life. Though it’s unlikely to pass the Bechdel Test, here’s hoping that Burying the Ex is a return to form for the idiosyncratic filmmaker.
